So I'm patiently waiting to see if Amazon will have the same kind of deals they had last year and I will pounce. Thinking.. Laura, The Grapes of Wrath, Paris, Texas, and maybe to Badlands, Fanny and Alexander, and 12 Angry Men.

blind buys would be Laura, Paris, Texas, and Fanny and Alexander
You cannot go wrong with any of those. Paris, Texas has a place on my Top Ten Criterions list, and Laura has one of the best transfers of a black-and-white film on Blu-ray.

The Grapes of Wrath is in my stack of Blu-rays waiting to be watched, but I have to finish the Steinbeck novel first.

I voted for the following titles for best cover art:
Safety Last!
Seconds
To Be or Not To Be

I almost chose Zatoichi for my 3rd choice, but then I remembered the iconic imagery used for the Safety Last! cover.

I had a hard time choosing 1 for worst cover art. I eventually voted against The Life of Oharu. I wish the cover was more dynamic like the one for Sansho the Bailiff.

word: just talked to my buddy at B&N, he's got the zatoichi set behind the counter with my name on it, and he said he'd be happy to let me use any coupons that will be available for the black friday weekend.

Laura is such an amazing movie as well. Gene Tierney is gorgeous so that helps, plus Price is such a loathsome douche bag!

Many shots I could barely make out on DVD are suddenly clear, full of texture and detail. This just excites me more and makes me impatient to see Vampyr and Caligari on Bluray and another favorite of mine, Criterion's release of 3 Silent Classics by Josef von Sternberg . The release of Passion of Joan of Arc, Die Nibelungen, Metropolis and the Mabuse films have also been equally as revelatory in their presentation. Bringing much needed clarity and detail to these old films and breathing new life into them.

Curious why Criterion hasn't announced Joan yet or if they have any plans to? Personally out of all of them I want to see Vampyr in HD.
You do realize that Vampyr isn't a silent film, right? Even though it seems like one for the most part.

Not that I wouldn't want to see it in HD, or that it doesn't deserve it, but you're lumping it in with all of those silent films, so I thought I'd ask.

Yeah I have the DVD version. I guess I should of said old films benefit the most from Blu then just silent films. Though Vampyr does kinda play as a silent film

Yes! City Loghts is not a good cover for me! I get why it's designed that way to represent the film, but just looks so-so :-( and I'm a HUGE Chaplin fan!!

I don't mind the City Lights cover. It's not ideal but it works.

I haven't voted yet but I'd imagine The Uninvited will be one of my top 3.

I am curious to know which films were the Criterion poll winners the first two years. Anybody have that info? Or a link within the thread?
