I guess their minds change - although (can't remember off top of my head) some directors who do directors cuts or re release sometimes they are worse versions of the films...

Can't think of main one but one example is Donnie Darko directors cut. By there's are loads, even some re release with new special effects.

Sometimes it's a great thing, sometimes it can ruin the film...

Bluray.com states that 1.75 is the original aspect ratio of AHDN. Are they wrong then?

What Lynch did to the scene with Laura Harring's pubic hair is nothing to worry about. It isn't even noticeable unless you do manipulate the image (look on google images for that), and IDK why you would do it, it's a 2 second shot anyway. I watched it on Encore HD and didn't even notice it when LOOKING for it (didn't remember the exact details), it's in silhouette so it's not like there is a big obvious blur. The situation with All the Right Moves is MUCH worse in comparison, as it reframes the shot entirely to obscure Lea Thompson and Tom Cruise's lower halves.

Yeah, I never had an issue with the blurring in Mulholland Drive. I never noticed it until it was mentioned here a few months back.

Although it's not long until the Barnes & Noble half-price sale, there is currently a Criterion sale at DVD Planet through June 30th on movies released in May and earlier (not the June releases or pre-orders). Then this morning I just got an email they're also having a site-wide 10% off "summersavings" sale through June 29th. This makes it possible to get about 50% off at DVD Planet with no tax and free shipping for quite a few titles. The net prices range between roughly $19 and $21 for the $39.95 titles. They also happen to be having a sale on the already-released Olive Films titles with the 10% additional discount yielding prices similar to the glory days of ImportCDs.

Depending on your sales tax and/or shipping options, and various coupon discounts or lack of them at B&N vs. loyalty-point discounts at DVD Planet, it may cost the same or less to use DVD Planet except for the new releases. Since my nearest B&N store with a video section is nearly a 5-hour drive, and I've had issues with B&N shipping in the past, I just put in a decent-size order with DVDplanet of Criterion, Olive and a few others I hadn't gotten around to buying yet. (e.g., without using any loyalty points, OVERLORD and LIKE SOMEONE IN LOVE came to $19.36 and $19.23, respectively, ACE IN THE HOLE and MASTER OF THE HOUSE were $20.57 and $20.11, and RED RIVER was $25.58, all with free shipping and no tax.)

I just finished rewatching A Hard Day's Night via Criterion's new release and all I can say is that the high-definition looks phenomenal!

The film is so much fun and I honestly want to rewatch it again right now haha.

Also, I believe the clue from the 2014 New Years Drawing that some thought to be A Raisin in the Sun is now believed to be The Big Chill. May be wrong on that, though.
I will add them in because they have been speculated by many. Thanks!

DeepDiscount too with 15% off - code Beach. Takes a few titles to over 50% off. But it ends at 23.59 CST TODAY

This is what I'm looking at based on interest, recommendations, and some I've seen (those in blue). I can't get all, maybe only about half or so. Any suggestions? Also I'll take any other recommendations not listed that you think I may like.

Thief
Rififi
Blue is the Warmest Color
Rushmore

On the Waterfront
Lord of the Flies
Beauty and the Beast
The Game
House
Days of Heaven
The Seventh Seal
Revanche
The Uninvited
The Royal Tenenbaums
Bottle Rocket
Three Colors Trilogy

I'm still a newbie and don't have a lot of Criterions so it's painful to be interested in so much and get so little so infrequently. There's probably 100 in my wish list, nearly all of them movies I've never seen. The Seventh Seal is a Criterion Collection staple and I haven't seen any Bergman so that one I'm definitely getting. Blue is the Warmest Color I might kick out of this haul because of the inevitable special edition rerelease.

Here's my current collection for reference (though I'm open to quite a lot, both classic and contemporary):
[Show spoiler]12 Angry Men
Anatomy of a Murder
Badlands
Belle de jour
The Blob
Blow Out
Breathless
Charade
Dazed and Confused
Diabolique
Eyes Without a Face
Following
Godzilla
Hunger
The Night of the Hunter
A Night to Remember
Paris, Texas
The Qatsi Trilogy
Repulsion
Rosemary's Baby
Salo, or the 120 Days of Sodom
Seconds
Seven Samurai (unwatched)
Tess (unwatched)
The Thin Red Line

It goes without saying that my Top 10 Film Noir list may change as I delve deeper into the rabbit hole by seeking out the more obscure films myself.

Incidentally, the bad girls showed up at my door this afternoon.

Last week, I placed an order for the DVD box sets, Bad Girls of Film Noir: Volume 1 and Bad Girls of Film Noir: Volume 2. The order was timely, because the first volume set is apparently out of print and being sold only by third party dealers, but it's still inexpensive for now, and the second volume is probably winding down in numbers as well. I'm looking forward to checking out these at a later date and seeing some more obscure stuff from the likes of Gloria Grahame, Lizabeth Scott, Jan Sterling, Ida Lupino, and Evelyn Keyes.

My understanding is that it was composed for 1.75, but usually projected at 1.66, especially in Europe. I think some past DVD versions have been 1.66 too. In any case, Criterion matted it both ways and presented it to Lester for his preference. The difference might be a slight one to most, but some are upset about it because they've only ever seen it presented 1.66. In any case they deferred completely to Lester. Personally, I don't really care; I just find it interesting.

Oh, I forgot to mention this in my post. TCM showed the Three Colors trilogy very recently and I recorded all three. Are these films that can be a little divisive or have a more niche, very art house appeal? Or are they generally enjoyable by most people? I'm wondering if I should view them on my DVR first or just take the plunge and blind buy the Blu-ray set to view them in the best quality for the first time.

Did a dummy order with B&N and DVDPlanet and as they don't add tax DVDPlanet came out cheaper by $4. May not be much but they have a loyalty scheme and TBH Barnes & Noble only care about people in the US so , you have missed out on a $120 order.

My only beef with ImportCDs/DeepDiscount/DVDPlanet is even though they ship from KY, it takes a double digit # of days for my order to arrive 1 state over.

Their prices have to be a lot cheaper than anyone else for them to get any of my business going forward.
