I think the 3 soldiers are wearing tricorn hats, not cowboy hats and probably sashes(?). Doesn't help me pin down a likely title.

That was my thinking for the most of the day too, but it's just the rest of that person looked like Clint to me, so I started thinking maybe the hat was just a caricatured version of a cowboy hat.

Once you see, you can't unsee

The guy to the right of "Clint" kind of looks like he's rolling up his sleeves too.

That's nice, but I didn't suggest that they were "still licensed and still being produced".

Read my lips: for Criterion to still be selling them, there has to be an agreement in place. If Criterion doesn't have Disney's permission (or Lionsgate's, in the case of Chasing Amy) to distribute the discs, Criterion wouldn't be able to do so. It doesn't matter what kind of agreement it is, but there has to be an agreement of some sort. It's absurd to suggest that Criterion is distributing these titles without a contract in place with the studio(s) holding the rights.

So Criterion is the only store that has to license additional rights for every single product they sell? Your logic is hilariously flawed in addition to being obviously wrong

And Criterion frequently sells titles after the rights are lapsed. The difference being that these particular titles probably had 100x as many copies pressed as the ones that quickly sell out.

I assure you: if Criterion has a warehouse full of unsold Armageddon discs from 15 years ago nobody at Disney is trying to stop them from selling them.

This is my biggest stretch of the day. But I was I wondering what those people behind the Speedy / Harold Lloyd clue had in their hands. So my mind just thought, maybe they're like iron rods or something. And then, I said, why do they have giant hands? Iron rods, Giant Hands? I give you..The Iron Giant!

Now that you say that, I see it too. Sure it's not, but can't unsee it. And personally, I didn't hate the movie, and it does have a great cast.

Not quite. That is simply The Brood.

Looking at portions again, specifically the pyre and woman, I'm thinking maybe both Passion of Joan of Arc and Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind ??

Someone, (Mifunefan?), brought up the rebar sticking out from the bridge decking saying it reminded them of Floating Weeds. Since the rebar is twisted, it looks like that would mean a failure, and the stuff that people want to call blood looks like it could be where the abutment was...does that suggest any titles to you? Someone over on the CC forums keeps saying it's something from the Koker trilogy, anyone else?

People are saying that the two suns and one moon might be the Before Trilogy, but I don't want to get my hopes up.

It was a joke, and I'd add that it really isn't definitive that it's the brood. It's been a while since I've seen it, but were there any giant hands involved with it? I don't imagine Criterion just made these little creepy girls (which they don't really look like girls) hands big for no reason. Also, why are they holding up rods, or sticks, or whatever?

Because Speedy is disturbing the peace.

Wait... I sure I just missed it in all of the comments, but is it possible the Fisher King clue is also The King and I?

Anyone have any idea what this is supposed to be?

As For the king/eye I can't imagine another BLU for the movie even if many aren't liking the transfer that was released. Seems like Fox would make more money out of a re-issue by themselves.

It's an intriguing idea. The fact that Fox Home Video just released The King and I as a stand-alone title less than three months ago would normally make me think it's an unlikely prospect.

But, on the other hand, Fox's master has been almost universally criticized from the git-go (when the title first appeared as part of the Rodgers and Hammerstein box set), and the stand-alone edition did seem to hit the discount bins almost immediately ... so maybe you're onto something!

I bought a copy of Fox's release for next to nothing, just to see how bad it really was (I haven't watched it yet), but I would be more than happy to pony up for a properly mastered Criterion edition.

Plus a hint only means that they have an agreement, it could still be years away from release.
