Wow, the play would definitely be something to see.

I'll have to watch the full TV version soon.

I was thinking on buying it tomorrow, but i can wait if CC will release it with more extras.
I'm still wondering when they're going to get around to releasing the special edition of Blue is the Warmest Color.

My copy hasn't arrived yet from B&N (it shipped one month ago), so when it does it seems I'm keeping it to watch next Christmas.
I can't watch the first episode now that Christmas is gone..

I've never watched Fanny and Alexander at Christmas time and always still enjoyed it.

Do you mean the theatrical version?
Because in the TV version, the whole 1st episode is a Christmas one with the Christmas dinner, and I like watching that at Christmas period.

I would believe in the theatrical version, that should be cut to 20-30 minutes the most.

I've never seen the theatrical version, but I'm also not someone who is sensitive to watching certain films during certain seasons.

For me I don't need it to be Autumn to watch a film that takes place in autumn, Christmas for film that takes place at Christmas, etc.

Oh, ok.
Well, I'm sensitive in these matters..
I prefer watching films relevant to the season.
e.g I watched Dead Poets society (which is one of my favourite films) in the middle of summer (with the air-condition on) so that a couple of friends may see it, but I didn't enjoy it as much as I would now..
Maybe it sounds crazy. I don't know if other people feel that way..

I'm odd I watched most films by what time of year it is or the weather.

I can't watch Body Heat unless it is a hot summer nite (even if they did film it in the winter haha) The Thing 1982 must be cold and snow on the ground.

I do make exceptions esp when a movie is released out of season so to speak.

I don't think it's crazy at all, just not something I ever think of personally.

I'm sure we all have our own criteria in our heads that starts in motion as soon as we think "I feel like watching a movie".

The only movie I feel that way about is McCabe and Mrs. Miller, but that's probably due to my personal history with the film. When I saw it in college, I walked to and from the theater in heavy snow. If you've seen it, you know that the ending involves snow. Anyway, now I prefer to watch it in the winter, preferably when it's snowing.

On the other hand, I recently watched the surfer pic Big Wednesday and it made me feel like breaking out the sunscreen.

I really wish Criterion would stick with one packaging style.

I sometimes follow the opposite mindset.

The temperatures are supposed to be pretty cold and dreary this weekend, so I'm planning to watch my Scorpion Releasing Blu-rays of The Beach Girls, The Pom Pom Girls, Tomboy, and My Tutor. I also have a hankering to revisit the James Bond 007 movie, Thunderball, this weekend.

In turn, I sometimes watch winter movies during the hottest days of summer.

I guess that this is because I'm always wishing that it were summer during the middle of winter and I'm usually wishing that it were winter during the middle of summer. It's always greener on the other side.

as far as pairing a season with a movie, NOTHING does the trick better for me than watching a James Bond film on a day when it is absolutely frozen outside and I am holed up inside. you know Bond is going to be in some sunny locales... and of course, there's going to be improbably attractive women and well... Bond being Bond. absolute definition of movie escapism for me.

I'm always wishing it was Autumn. Except in Autumn. In Autumn I'm just happy it's Autumn.

Are there good Autumn movies I should be watching?

You mean by Criterion?
One that comes to mind is Autumn Sonata.

Also I think Five Easy Pieces is autumn-y to winter-y.

Casino Royale (2006) and Skyfall are the only James Bond 007 movies to feature scenes in the rain.

This is one of the charms of the series. The weather is usually beautiful in the 007 world.

Incidentally, I'm convinced that the rain sequence in Casino Royale, where Bond and Vesper come into the cozy room from the rain and start making love, was influenced by a scene in Out of the Past (1947) where Robert Mitchum and Jane Greer come out of the rain into a cottage. The circumstances of the two scenes are somewhat identical.
Also, the sequence where Bond follows Vesper, who is wearing a red dress, through the alleys of Venice is clearly influenced by Nicholas Roeg's Don't Look Now. (So I just made this a Criterion-relevant post.)

This one needs a blu-ray (with the uncut version).

I'm not one who really matches the film to the season. We don't, of course, have such definitive weather changes as some places. It's more like "rainy season" and not. (And for some reason, the power always goes out when there are strong winds and some rain. Frustrating. How am I supposed to watch anything?)
