I don't go anymore at the cinema, but I'm looking forward to go to this!

By the way, I would LOVE a narration free version, but i understand there won't be any!
That's pretty darn cool! Thanks for sharing this find!

In short tho -
[Show spoiler]at one point the two lenses of the 3D camera "split apart", so for ten seconds or so separate films are beamed in to each eye.
I have lazy eye in my right eye, so I never get the intended effect of 3D movies in the first place. I'm supportive of all new innovations in cinema that allow directors to convey stories in different ways, but it's annoying to me as a serious movie fan that some of these innovations are lost on me. I'm curious to see the film anyway, though, to see if it works in any form or fashion.

I think you named the 2 main culprits though. I get 99% off my Criterions online or at B&N.

Don't forget the Criterion trading forum on this very site. Lots of deals can be made there:

In Breathless it was the edititing and camera movement/placement. Now it's 3D.

That shot sounds amazing. I have a suspicion that James Cameron will use it, or Michael Bay for some explosion effects or car wrecks or some **** like that.
I don't want to give those guys any ideas, but it's work great to express confusion in a post-explosion scenario.

It's a shame that you'll never get to experience 3D in it's intended fashion, but rest easy knowing that 9.5/10 it's worthlessly tacked on! I know a couple of people who are colour-blind, which is a fate which makes me grateful that my own problems are nowhere near as extreme!

True that. I'm fortunate to have otherwise perfect vision.

I can attend 3D showings at theaters, as long as the glasses are of the even tint mixture variety, but I always opt for a 2D showing if one is available.

Does Criterion plan to release Mistress America? I know they like Baumbach almost as much as they love Wes.

Criterion posted a photo of Preston Sturges and Harold Lloyd on instagram. Looks like The Sin of Harold Diddlebock is coming.

In an interview, Godard expressed a dislike of "restorations." He said something like, "They destroy the character of film." It may have been said in a supplement to "Contempt" or "Breathless," maybe on a European release. It may have been an old interview, and he may have changed his mind, but I am inclined to agree. Nobody watches a negative, so when transferring film to video why not scan a print instead of a negative?

I saw this in theaters about ten years ago at a Harold Lloyd retrospective. Not a bad film by any means, but not something I'd prioritize.

Because every print looks different? And where do you think a print comes from? If a restoration is done by people who know what they're doing (e.g. James White) it will look like a print anyway, but with optimal quality. Bad restorations destroy the character of a film - ones that use DNR and EE and put a teal filter over the image *cough* Warner Bros. *cough* - not restorations full stop.

I haven't seen any comments on the Les Blanc set, has no one picked it up? It sounded interesting.

How many times do we need this to happen to learn? Just because Criterion posts a random fact or photo from a film, does NOT mean they're releasing it.

Although The Sin of Harold Diddlebock (aka Mad Wednesday) is a kind of sequel to The Freshman (which is already in the Criterion Collection) I'd be very surprised if they'd release it as it's considered a bit of a disappointment by all involved.

There are far better Preston Sturges and Harold Lloyd movies that deserve to be out in a special edition before Diddlebock.

Cute pic, but it may just mean that Criterion has future releases of Sullivan's Travels and Speedy in the works. I haven't read anything to suggest that The Sin of Harold Diddlebock (either version) is blu ray ready.
