Is that through Oscilloscope? I've noticed that they've released a bunch of Milestone titles on DVD (including, among others, Hitchcock's Bon Voyage & Aventure Malgache and Bae Yong-kyun's Why Has Bodhi-Dharma Left for the East?, but I hadn't heard of them doing any Blu-rays other than On the Bowery - The Films of Lionel Rogosin, Vol. 1.

"My Beautiful Laundrette" is definitely not a film I would blind buy. It's okay, nothing exceptional. Stephen Frears has never been my favorite director. He tends to take really interesting material and makes it into really mediocre films. "The Hit" is a great example of this. All the parts are there to make a great lyrical, meditative gangster film, but it never quite gets over the hump. "The Grifters" is pretty solid, but there's the potential for so much more. Same with "Prick Up Your Ears". Whenever I watch a Frears film, I find myself thinking about what so many other directors could do with the same material. Such as Alan Parker or Mike Leigh, other English directors who deal with hard-edged, brually honest subject matter. "MBL" is a movie with zero re-watchability factor for me personally, so I'd check it out on a streaming service before buying.

Yeah, I assume their parents haven't allowed them to upgrade to blu-ray, yet. Although, when you're all sitting in a bedroom 3 feet from the 20" television, then the higher resolution probably doesn't matter too much, ya know?

The Fassbinder set has at least three movies that are essential for an understanding of what he's all about: Love Is Colder than Death, Katzelmacher, and Beware of a Holy *****. (Though speaking as a huge Fassbinder partisan, it's a frustrating set in some ways -- what makes these important films less worthy of Blu-ray releases than Merchant of Four Seasons and Ali?)

Hi All,
Just a quick question as I was previously on the Arrow discussion thread... is there any rough idea around when Lady Snowblood will be released on BD? Rented it on Amazon and it had fantastic quality. Just curious if there is/was any information I am not aware of regarding the physical release. Thanks all! Sorry if this has been answered. Tried searching posts but didn't come through with anything solid. |

Hah! I was not feeling it either. As each story element was introduced, like class tensions, cultural differences, my head thought "this should be interesting," but my heart was freakin ready for this movie to be over.

Oh well.. i will be eagerly waiting for the opinions of Criterion collectors that will watch Jellyfish eyes, in case it turns out to be a masterpiece (or at least a very important film) that Criterion fairly chose to release. |

The timetable is unknown. All we know is that it is forthcoming based on the New Year's tease and the iTunes release. Last edited by PaperThinWalls; 07-03-2015 at 03:54 PM. |

Yes, apparently Oscilloscope is the "exclusive distributor" for Milestone (if you look at any of the Milestone titles listed in the database here, and click on the back cover scan, you'll see their logo. Funny, but I didn't think of looking for Milestone titles here until just now. I was going by what was listed at Oscilloscope's website and there was only the one BD I mentioned listed (and a bunch of DVDs).
