Inland Empire is the scariest film I've ever seen, seeing as we're discussing horror (not sure what genre I'd classify it as though to be honest).

Also think I might be in the minority in regards to Truffaut, because the more of his work I see, the more I think he got better as he got older. Just watched Love on the Run and I'd say it's my second favourite of the Antoine Doinel series (behind The 400 Blows.. of course).

Should I arrange them by date, alphabetical, by director, or split up the set and continue with the spine numbers?

It's a little irritating, my other sets all have sequential spine numbers.
Keep it with the spine numbers. Makes the most sense for Criterion. Antonioni's trilogy is split up like that as well. Oh well.

Doesn't it take a bit more time that way to find a title if you have a large collection?
I arrange them alphabetically.

One day I may organize by spine numbers, but for now I organized by watched, not watched, and then by box set and/or director.

We are going to put up a new shelving unit that might change things.

After enjoying Don't Look Now so much on Thursday night I watched Walkabout last night. I wasn't as moved by the film as DLN, but thought it was very good. I love desert/western landscape films and probably would have liked this a bit more if it had not been as artsy and meandering. I realize Roeg was showing nature in a new light to the viewer, but it was somewhat off putting to me.

I did appreciate the portrayal of nature vs civilization. Definitely wouldn't have wanted my daughter playing the lead role. I was a little surprised by the level of her naturality although I didn't feel like Roeg was exploiting her.

I arrange them alphabetically.

I arranged mine alphabetically until I got up to around 75 titles. Then I went by spine.

Going by spine gives the appearance of a random display. It does take longer to find titles but I like perusing over the collection and usually find 3-4 other films I want to watch or revisit before I find the one I was trying to find.

Color of spine I think.

If the case is dark, it goes with other darks.

Reds go with other reds.

Whites with other whites.

And so on and so forth.

It looks simply marvelous on my bookshelf.

Inland Empire was scary?

...I must have seen a different film.

Not of you remember them like Pokemon. Each Pokemon has a number attached to it

Pretty sure this conversation has been had in here before (if I'm thinking of the right user).

You define horrors in a more traditional sense (e.g. Halloween) as opposed to psychological, character based stories. Which is totally fine and just highlights the subjectivity of film.

I would agree that Inland Empire was scary, for what it's worth.

In my mind, the conversation came down to the distinction between a "scary" movie and a "horror" movie.

Horror movies are not always scary movies.

I'm fine with the notion that someone would classify Inland Empire as a horror movie, though I personally would not.

...but what's scary about it?

I blind bought both during the last B&N sale. I haven't watched Don't Look Now yet since I'm saving it for my October Horror run, but I did watch Walkabout a few weeks ago and liked it (but didn't love it).

The one scene that was off putting for me was the scene with the group of people
[Show spoiler]that lose the balloon. I get what he was going for by showing the group of people, but there seemed to be absolutely no need to make the scene so sexual. Sexual scenes don't bother me, but I don't think there was any reason for it to be like that.

Tuesday will be for December announcements. Based on remaining clues from the New Year's picture:

The Big Clock (or After Hours) Based on the clock hands, it is probably After Hours, but man do I want The Big Clock on blu-ray.
Lady Snowblood / Lady Snowblood 2 Box Set
The New World
Speedy

I am also hoping for Gilda, but December has usually been a lighter release month for Criterion, usually only four titles.

I thought both were brilliant. Don't Look Now was more of piecing together the puzzle. Walkabout was just as powerful, but I didn't personally enjoy the film as much.

I agree on your beef with that scene. I thought the tension was stated well enough with the main characters without adding that part.

Will CC be getting any more Tarkovsky on bluray? Solaris and Ivan's Childhood are nice, but I would really like a good Stalker or Andrei Rublev transfer.

I think it's safe to assume Andrei Rublev will be upgraded eventually from Criterion, but does Kino still have the rights to Stalker?

I also blind bought Dont Look Now during the last sale & was very disappointed. I couldn't sell the disc fast enough.
