It could be a hint for Rocky (1976).

Rocky finally caught that chicken that he was chasing as part of his training routine, and he and his trainer, Mickey, are up in heaven celebrating.

Only Angels Have Wings fits the best, but I hope it is all three, especially since I already own the TCM release and consider it quite good.
Never thought of the first one, hope is that one, although since there are two angels it doesn't fit perfectly.

I am also interested to know if there is any hint from an upgrade without anything blue in the drawing.

Edit: I think I just found one: The Vanishing

You're right. I didn't think about issues introduced during the scanning process.

I would agree with you in regards to random encoding glitches, but I believe the case being made against the affected Criterion titles is that the compression problems appear across the image during the majority of the runtime.

Why not a quadruple clue?

All of the three mentioned above, and finally Wings of Desire. Sure, I know it is out already, but there is a new transfer and this image makes me really desire some dang wings.

(I am not serious. Agree with the consensus that it is the Hawks film.)

There's only one logical answer to that clue.

would love it to be Only Angels Have Wings, an unsung Howard Hawks masterpiece IMHO.

This one would be nice, because the French BD is obviously taken from a dated master (maybe even the one used by Criterion for their old DVD).
Needless to say there's plenty of room for improvement.

Well, not Criterion releated, but since I have seen Dekalog mentioned often here, and because many of you maybe not be checking the international forums, the dekalog is coming on Bluray on November 4th!

If its is Only Angels Have Wings I'll be happy for those that missed the Turner Classics release, but I would prefer two other Howard Hawks, Columbia films: Twentieth Century and His Girl Friday.

Day one purchase for me, and I will gladly buy it again if Criterion brings it out. I know a lot of people that haven't seen these will be blown away. Kieslowski was a master.

Possibly, but I think what's even more likely is that it's 1984's "Angel", about a high school student who moonlights as a hooker. I think the multiple angels indicate that we could have a box set on our hands, with the sequels being thrown in.

I just watched Hiroshima mon Amour, another of my blind buys from the flash sale.

I must say I was a bit underwhelmed, I really like Last Year at Marienbad and Night and Fog and I did find a lot of stylistic similarities to them.

First I must say I really loved the opening sequence which last around 15 minutes or so, felt a lot like Night and Fog, also thought the musical score of the whole film was amazing.

But I really couldn't connect with most of what happens later, for example there is a great scene in the middle when the backstory of the main character is explained, but somehow I just didn't find it moving, I guess my problem is that it is mainly an exploration of Elle, there isn't much to say about the Japanese character, he doesn't really says much, it's hard to understand why he is in love with her to begin with, even the setting about the atomic bomb is analyzed from her point of view so we don't get to see how he relates to her past.

So maybe I went into with the wrong expectations but for me it doesn't work as a romantic story like for example Before Sunrise, I think the theme is more complicated than that.

I am still catching up with the special features, which is what I love about Criterion releases, you can always get more appreciation out of the films you didn't really get, and sometimes find info that can help you understand them better for your next watch, which is why am not dismissing this release just yet.

might be worth a rewatch because it really isnt a love story at all, at least not between the main characters of the movie. More of a film about loss, grief and memory IMHO

Haven't posted a podcast link in awhile, but this one is quite interesting.

Mulholland Drive

We had a guest, but his mic blew out and we didn't know it until after the recording. Of course this is a big episode and yesterday was Halloween. We weren't able to re-record, so we regrettably had to cut him out. At first we did not know if the episode could function, but after some creative editing, it actually works. Even he listened to it and was shocked at how cohesive it was with a "ghost" in the room. And it fits well with the film. I'm curious if you guys pick up on much.

I just love this film so much that I was thrilled to truly geek out on it. If we had lost the episode, it would have been a travesty.
