Just got out of a NYC screening of MULTIPLE MANIACS with Waters in person for a Q and A.

The restoration is really tremendous considering the film and it's a wild and incredibly sleazy and absurd trip. I had a great time watching that. And Waters stories after the screening were really entertaining. What an intelligent guy. I really hope there is a commentary on the upcoming disc.

He certainly uses sounds very effectively, I can't be sure but I think you are right, other than his silent films I don't remember any score, I think this is one aspect that helped the specific atmosphere his films usually have.

I must say I really like music in films so I am all for great scores and soundtracks, but then I don't mind the few films that don't have anything, they can be as good too.

Agreed Ray! I recently watched Luca Guadagnino's "A Bigger Splash" & was absolutely floored when the Aguirre theme dropped. Excellent use of music in that film and Tilda Swinton is marvelous as usual.

As far as popular music in soundtracks, that is one thing Tarantino gets right most of the time, and also Linklater.

I think Dazed and Confused has the most awesome soundtrack of rock tunes in a film, like the theme songs to a generation of late 1970s high schoolers.

Alain Goraguer's original score for Fantastic Planet is a perfect slice of jazzy space-age funk.

I never thought much of Indian music until I tuned into Satyajit Ray, most notably The Music Room. Hypnotic & mesmerizing performances at the core of this film.

House contains a somewhat primitive but unique melting pot of groovy melodies. Something like Sesame Street meets George Clinton. Where can I get this on vinyl!?

I'm surprised no one has mentioned Harold & Maude, it's gotta be right up there with The Graduate in the top films scores of all time.

I'm not a big fan of movies that use a large amount of music, but I'd have to say Natural Born Killers has a really great soundtrack, probably my favorite.

Fienne's Rolling Stones dance put the biggest goofy grin on my face.

Question about this--do the replacement boxes come with some kind of adhesive strip or glue to hold the box together? It doesn't seem like they would simply fold up and stay into shape, since they ship flat. I have a couple digipack boxes worth replacing and would love to know about this!

In my experience, Criterion has been very careful when shipping replacement boxes. There's no adhesive strip or glue (IMO, not necessary). The ones I just received recently were not only surrounded by bubble wrap, but also (because I only needed the outer box, not the inner digipack which holds the discs---they charge $5 for each), they filled the inner portion of the box where the inner digipack would normally go with bubble wrap as well. They come shipped in a large enough box to comfortably house the replacement boxes, and they arrived to me in pristine condition. They also sent me an e-mail asking me to let them know when I received them.

Also, I'd recommend being specific on exactly what part of the digipack or collection box you want: inner digipack vs. outer box or both, Blu-ray edition vs. DVD edition (even though a lot of the digipacks are for their dual format editions, I'd still specify), etc.

Order with confidence. Hope that helps.

I watched The New Land last night and loved it.

I think I prefer it over The Emigrants.

Absolutely! There's not a bad song on that album. I especially love the two Paul Westerberg songs that bookend the film ("Waiting For Somebody" & "Dyslexic Heart"); they fit the film perfectly.

Hard to believe that film is going to turn 25 next year. Damn, I'm getting old.

Is The Time Machine worth a CC release? I'm sure there are many interesting extras that could make it worth the price. I saw a video on youtube the other day about the actual time machine, and what went into creating it, then all the drama of piecing it back together many years later.

Also watched The Killers last night.

Has there ever been a more beautiful woman than Ava Gardner in her prime?

I'd take her over Marilyn Monroe any day.

I think if I'd been around in the 40s and 50s I would've had a chance too.

Back in my younger years I was well known as a hard drinking, hard partying sex god.

...what did Frank Sinatra have that I don't have?

House is one of my favorites too. Every song there contributes to that dreamy feeling, but I especially love the song that opens the film.
