Not a fan of the Tracy/Hepburn team-ups (the WB box of them is more than enough for me), already have the Demy box, and don't need to upgrade my Buena Vista DVD, so my wallet is happy to have a rare release-free month. (Though I'll probably revisit Rumble Fish via Netflix if they end up stocking it.)

Could be. They've changed a bit from my perception of how they used to be. Maybe it's just me growing into my curmudgeon self and hating change...I don't know. My other safe haven for classic titles-TCM, in their post-Robert Osborne era, is also changing-Younger hosts, much more hawking of their merchandise than they used to (TCM Wine Club ad nauseum ), and to prove you're a true fan-an $87 annual fee to be a Backlot member. I hate getting old! Enough self-pity! Must stay strong for the May announcements.

A lot of their stuff was shot in SD. But those lossless remixes would be sweet.

Joke aside, I'm going to write this month down just to prepare the end of year "worst Criterion 2017 covers" because most of these will probably end up in the short list :
- overloaded impersonal listing for Buena Vista
- random "let's turn this one into a cartoon !" Woman of the Year
- bland Rumble Fish which ressembles a generic modern poster. Not a bad cover per se, but it's just... bland and generic
- Tampopo is a weird one. I like the idea, but not the execution. In any case, I much prefer the theatrical poster.

And even the individual releases from the randomly broken sets are from a set with a general awful layout artwork.


And the Woman of the Year page cites the wrong George :
Woman of the Year - George Cukor
While it should be George Stevens

I need to watch Rumble Fish again. I remember not caring for it when I saw it a while ago. Drugstore Cowboy is a great Matt Dillon film that could use the Criterion treatment.

Gotta say this is a pretty d**n disappointing month for me. The continued neglect of upgrading DVD titles and the absence of Eclipse titles is very troublesome.

Count me in as being frustrated and disappointed by the lack of upgraded DVD titles in recent months. As for today's announcements, I'll be in for only Rumble Fish.

It's double disappointment because not only they didn't announce any upgrade, they re-released two of the ones already released in blu by themselves, sure there are few here who need those but I am guessing most people interested already bought them.

Of course doesn't mean those two slots would have been used for upgrades otherwise but who knows.

Also as the trend of not releasing upgrades continue we are only going to get more frustrated

stunning that a film like The Virgin Spring is STILL not on bd after over a decade.
Criterion still has a fantastic catalog overall, but they really need to finish upgrading the core films still stuck in dvd hell.
I really don't think 1 upgrade a month is too much to ask.
