I have a B&N physical store on the way home from work. I like buying from there rather than the online version or the flash sale. I can go back multiple times during the month long sale. When I realize I am purchasing enough, I grab the B&N Membership for $25. It allows an additional 10% off Criterion purchases in store. That comes out to $2/title of the standard $40 MSRP blu-rays and more for the box sets. I was also able to get a one time coupon that took 10% off an Eclipse purchase. I did it late in the November 2017 sale. So it will cover me for November 2017, July 2018 and the beginning of November 2018. I might cancel while I get caught up on those purchases.

It's nice to see what you are getting too. B&N online sent me a nice blu-ray with a box cutter down the middle through the cover.

Going to try and keep it to a 5 movie max this time since I went so crazy the last time the actual Criterion website had a sale:
- Age of Innocence
- Virgin Suicidice
- Midnight Cowboy
- Virgin Springs
- **WildCard Spot**

Is this happening chain-wide? Seems like a real shame.
The B&N where I buy movies still has a cash register in the music and movies section but no dedicated staffer. I've had to flag someone down when I wanted to purchase something.

I've been able to knock Dead Man and The Virgin Suicides off my list due to Wow-HD listing them for £17-odd recently (slightly more than I'd get them from B&N... but no customs worries); that leaves me with this shortlist:

A Matter of Life and Death
The Virgin Spring
Blue is the warmest color
Mystery Train

And maybe one other.

I was going to spring for the Von Sternberg / Dietrich set but want to wait in case Arrow or someone does it over here.

Thanks - I should probably go for that. It'll be $12.50 in the sale, but with a couple of dollars as part of combined postage, it's so close I should probably just get it from Wow

Great: go see it! Tremendous opportunity! I saw it when it first opened, then bought the Criterion dvd last year, and saw it again for the first time since then. Still classic, not dated at all. Highly recommended. I have no idea about possible upgrade.

Note this was in response to the LOVES OF A BLONDE request several posts back. My mistake.

A theater near me played it following Forman's death, and I quite enjoyed it. I don't know that I'd feel compelled to buy it if it did get upgraded, but it's worth seeing, so a theatrical screening would be the way to go, imo.

For anyone interested, Nautilus Art Prints in Belgium has a fantastic print of Ran on a timed release until Saturday:

http://www.nautilus-artprints.com/

I picked up a Regular Version. This will be my second purchase from Nautilus with Criterion association, as I have the print for PlayTime from 2016.

I think I've nailed down my list to 3 films and maybe possibly a 4th(we'll see):

Von Sternberg / Dietrich set
A Touch Of Zen
Anatomy of a Murder

- I might end up picking either Gilda or The Asphalt Jungle as my 4th film. I just don't know yet. Though, I have a feeling it will be 4 films since I can't help myself.

In the last year or so, I've seen two local B&N stores cut their DVD sections in half. I'd say that home video is an endangered species there.

The book sections are also being cut back. Categories such as Mysteries and Biographies used to have a dedicated rack for the newest releases, but now the new releases are simply shelved alphabetically by author or subject.

It feels like a slow death, to me.

With their fabulous MSRP pricing, I'm surprised that didn't happen 10 years ago.

Yeah, no kidding. They should ask Borders how pricing everything at MSRP worked out for them.
