Of course... I would have sprung for it if it was $25 or less. $40 plus train/gas to get there just isn't worth it even though I'm a massive fan of The Hit.

Speaking of Stamp, are there any of his movies that people here recommend beyond the obvious "Big 3" (the two mentioned + Billy Budd)?

The Collector is most definitely in his big 3 for me.

Yeah you didn't like Billy Budd.

In any event, as a huge fan of Wyler I've actually let The Collector slip by me. Should change that.

Cheers

Probably not for all tastes, but I like Pasolini's Teorema.

For a different side of Terence Stamp, check out Priscilla, Queen of the Desert. Definitely in my top 5 of Terence Stamp films.

I know travel plus the cost of the book (assuming one wanted a copy) would be extra, but an evening ticket for any old film at my local AMC is $15. So it comes down to whether the extra $25 to see The Hit on the big screen and a Q&A with Stamp is worth it. I think so.

Is there anything that indicates Criterion might upgrade their Jules Dassin dvd's to blu. Specifically Brute Force, Naked City and Thieves Highway. I've been contemplating selling my dvd's and picking up the discs Arrow released on Blu. But I've been hesitant thinking a Criterion release might be right around the corner.

Any insight?

Cheers.

I tried my best to hurry this along by purchasing the Brute Force DVD during last years B&N sale. I was also going to get The Naked City but that one wasn't even in their system anymore to order. These two are among my most wanted upgrades.

On the subject of Terence Stamp, I always enjoyed this scene with him:

That Von Sternberg/Dietrich set looks awesome. The B&N sale cannot start quick enough.

I wasn't really looking at the Dietrich/Sternberg boxset, but those pictures look amazing. Figuring out what to get next week is going to be a challenge.

Made a list of what I'll be purchasing during the upcoming B&N sale:

Moonrise
Midnight Cowboy
Au Hasard Balthazar
The Virgin Spring
Women in Love
Only Angels Have Wings
The Awful Truth
Sullivan’s Travels
Sid and Nancy
Rebecca
Dietrich & Von Sternberg In Hollywood Set
A Matter of Life and Death
Sex, Lies, and Videotape
Bull Durham

A lot of these are blind buys. Am I making good choices?

I love The Awful Truth, Only Angels Have Wings, & Rebecca. If you’re a big fan of classic Hollywood you can’t go wrong with those three. Sullivan’s Travels is a great little gem too. If you like it I’d recommend Sturges other films as well. The Palm Beach Story & I Married a Witch, and we’re still waiting on The Lady Eve.

SL&V, great film, different, but really good.

Also I own Moonrise & Midnight Cowboy but I haven’t watched them yet. I’ve got a bit of a backlog to catch up with.

My copy of The Virgin Spring arrived today. It's a great day to be a Bergman fan!

I've just realized that I have been neglecting the thread's OP for the past few months. That'll be corrected soon.

Awesome. I can't wait to check them out. I can't believe I haven't seen Rebecca yet. Have read so many great things about it.
