As far far as linking your account....

I literally had to do nothing. The Criterion Channel must do everything in the back end. As soon as I created an account at VHX.tv and signed in, my Criterion account was already there... I guess it must be tied to your username/email address.
I took a leap of faith and signed up for a year of the Criterion Channel tonight. After that, I opened the VHX app on my Roku and got a link and activation code. On that link, they asked for my e-mail address - I gave the same one I used to subscribe to the Criterion Channel. Sure enough, my Criterion subscription shows right up on the VHX Roku app. I haven't tried watching Mikey and Nicky yet, but hopefully I'll do that tonight. Thanks again for pointing this out to everybody!

Edit: A bit concerned that the renewal date is listed as March 6th when the service doesn't launch until April 8th and everyone is supposed to get a free month after that. Anyone else run into this?

You can see the renewal date by going into the Purchases tab on this link: criterionchannel.com/settings/purchases (hyperlinking it screws up the link)

Hmmm... That's a good catch. It's definitely curious that it shows my renewal date as March 1 (30 days after I subscribed for the free trial). Definitely something to keep an eye on though I'm reasonably certain that we will be billed as promised.

It definitely is strange. Again, good catch.

Also, if you're gonna watch Mikey and Nicky, do it quick... It's changing over Wednesday (or is it Thursday?). Soon, anyway.

I e-mailed them through criterionchannel.com/contact/support and got an auto-reply back immediately confirming receipt of my message.

Curiously, it gets sent to VHX/Vimeo, so I hope they're actually equipped to address this issue.

I'll let you know what they respond with.

But I'd feel a lot more comfortable if the renewal date was correct on the site.

Thanks for the tip on Mikey and Nicky. Gonna go watch it now, unless I suddenly get drowsy when my head hits the pillow.

I wish they'd keep all of the Movies of the Week up until launch, but I guess they want to take it slowly and test things.

This is the response I received from Criterion Channel/Vimeo:

Quote:
Hi ,

Sorry for the confusion here! When you sign up for a free trial, the payment system on Criterion Channel will put a temporary $1 authorization charge on your account. However, your actual 30 day free trial will not begin until April 8, 2019. This means that you will not be charged the full amount until May, despite the automatic message that you received.

Let me know if you have any other questions!
Not sure that reassures me, but I will at least have it to point to if we do get charged earlier. Plus, people signed up a few days before me and will therefore get charged a few days earlier IF there's an issue (I hope not and don't think there will be, but you never know), so I'll at least have a bit of a heads-up if anything does arise.

I did see the temporary $1 charge, so that part is correct.

I'm sorry for my lack of understanding, but could someone either explain or provide a link as to how the Criterion Channel can be accessed with a Fire Stick? I was a member of FilmStruck and I'm now a charter member of the new Criterion Channel. But I can't figure out how to access the site with my Fire Stick. I know the site is limited right now, but I'd still like to access it with my TV as opposed to my laptop.

Thanks for any help!

I can't find anything on Amazon, but does the Fire Stick have an app for VHX?

IF the Fire Stick does have the VHX app, what you would do is:

1. Open the VHX app on your Fire Stick
2. Get a website link and activation code
3. Go to the website listed there (I think it's vhx.tv/activate)
4. Enter the same e-mail address you used to sign up for the Criterion Channel + activation code

Then your subscription will appear in the VHX app.

(The same instructions apply to Roku or anything else that has the VHX app.)

If the Fire Stick doesn't have the VHX app, don't worry - it will have the proper Criterion Channel app on launch day.

For now the Channel is web-only, but on April 8 apps will be launching on desktop, Apple TV, Amazon Fire, Roku, iOS, & Android devices!
For now, all you can watch is the Movie of the Week anyway. Still very cool, but I assume all of those will be available at launch too.

I might just wait until April then. Thanks for clarifying.

I think if you sign up now you get a discount on the price for monthly or annual subscriptions.

Yes, that's true. I'm a charter member. But I won't worry about accessing the channel until April when they have it all set up.

Well, if you do have access to the VHX app, it's really easy and works really well.

I watched Mikey and Nicky on it last night.

Wow, what a wild ride...

You can compare

http://dvdcompare.net/comparisons/film.php?fid=18457

with

http://dvdcompare.net/comparisons/film.php?fid=1851

It looks like all video extras were retained while some new ones were added.

What about the booklet? I mean did that carry over from the DVD to the BD or is the BD a whole new booklet?
