Well, the good news is that I can spend the next week watching Criterion films on my DVR, fall in love with them, then add them to my order, and burn an even bigger hole in my pocket.
I've got Blow-Out, Here Comes Mr. Jordan, Frances Ha, Picnic at Hanging Rock, Personal Shopper, Blonde Venus, Morocco, The Kid Brother, I Married a Witch, Limelight, Cat People, Sullivan's Travels, Othello, and 45 Years. What could possibly go wrong?? ![]() |

A Star is Born does seem like a reasonable guess for the latest drawing. Which version though? The 1937 film is already represented by a respectable Kino blu taken from Selznick's personal nitrate print, but that could be superseded if the three-strip negative (held by Warner Bros) were to be used. The 1954 version? The Warner blu is already pretty good. Personally, I have always been skeptical about the Arick rumors, but even if the lost footage is recovered, would Warners want to license the film then? The 1976 version? Doesn't exactly strike me as Criterion material, but maybe the Criterion folks see something in it that eludes me. Perhaps the latest film is going straight to a Criterion release? Maybe a box set of all four? Or perhaps A Star is Born isn't being referenced at all? Actually, my first thought after looking at the drawing was Jesus Christ Superstar, but again I don't think that film would be Criterion material.

1. I'm just previewing the film. 2. This film is really good. I'll put it on my wish list. 3. I definitely need this, but I can wait for the sale. 4. I need this film - like yesterday! Good luck. Last edited by Ned Brainard; 02-26-2019 at 07:53 PM. |
