This one is still the most creative "correct" guess I've seen.

I subscribe to Prime, Criterion, Netflix, and Hulu, and I haven't seen that. My home theater has better sound and visual quality than any online service.

Apart from the tech, you seem to have forgotten the importance of ownership. For instance, it is impossible to find anything from the Golden Age of Hollywood on a legal streaming service. No Bogart, no Gable, no Crawford, no Davis, nothing. Cult films are really difficult to find, especially LGBT content. If I want to watch Zero Patience or The 5,000 Fingers of Dr. T, I have to pop in my DVD because they don't exist in any streaming service.

I keep my library of little plastic discs for the same reason I have bookshelves full of old and out-of-print books, so that I can OWN them and not depend on a 3rd-party provider for access.

This. The Criterion Channel has a few, but your best bet is still TCM and you can't get that without a cable subscription. I wish they would offer it as a stand-alone streaming service. I would gladly pay $10-15 per month for a TCM HD.

Does digital and physical media need to be an either/or proposition?

Same. The cheapest option for cable-less access was around $40, I think, last time a checked, through some base "online TV" platform and the add-on that included TCM. I would happily pay $10-15 to just be able to stream and DVR TCM and only TCM.

Just be thankful no company has stooped to selling empty display cases containing digital codes. It's already happening in the video game industry.

Will we see a Criterion release of the Plague Dogs? I wish I could see this on the channel but I don't currently have it.

And all that "superior" technology he alludes to/champions means jack squat if my ISP fails, if some overzealous squirrel digs up my fiber optic cable, or if the service provider with the uber streaming capabilities gets whacked by a fire, virus, natural disaster, gremlins, highly agitated spirits, or a ticked off employee with a desire to screw over stockholders.

DirecTV is supposed to represent the pinnacle of home television service. Best PQ there is, hands down (and I've had Time Warner, Verizon FIOS, a few other providers). Yet in the last two weeks, I've spent a good four days, in the aggregate, with no signal, at all because of a simple rain storm, or heavy thunderstorms. When that happens, I shrug my shoulders, walk over to my "antiquated" shelf o' blu-rays, pop in a movie, and wonder how my "satellite television-only" counterparts are enjoying that cutting edge technology, all whilst staring at a screen that says "loss of signal".

Streaming has too many variables, for my tastes. I subscribe to Hulu, Netflix, and Amazon Prime, plus use Watch TCM, HBO Go, Showtime Anytime, and Starz Play (through Amazon Prime). So, I'm not adverse to streaming. But I'll never trust it to be my primary source of entertainment. Too many hands in the cookie jar, too many "for profit" companies who can switch EULA in a heartbeat, fundamentally changing my overall experience. Too many technical snafus that can arise at any one of the companies involved in making my stream a reality. No thank you.

Apologies if already mentioned, but here is a chance to ask Criterion any questions...

Usually around the Fourth of July holiday, continuing until the end of the month.

Edit: I just checked, and it ran June 29 to August 6 in 2018 - which was earlier/longer than usual.

Oldboy is owned by the Korean producers and could possibly be with Well Go, if not with any of the usual suspects over here.

Not to get too far off topic, but does anyone know who owns US rights to The Triple Echo? It never had a video release in the US and while it seems Filmrise appears to have streaming rights using an older BFI print, it's possible Handmade Films (who Indicator licensed their UK release from) has worldwide rights, or MGM somehow obtained US rights from the Hemdale output inherited through Orion but are unaware of it.

Don't get me wrong, I've thoroughly enjoyed Indactor's release (which may go OOP once all 3000 copies are sold), but I imagine there's region locked folks out there who don't feel like importing and are gonna hold out on a US release of the 2k OCN remaster if they really want it bad.

I thought most Indicator was region free? Are some region locked?
