Picked up these Criterion titles today:

Was allowed to us the Additional 20% off one item coupon on this:

And have these on order:

...where I intend to use my other Additional 20% off one item coupon on the BRD Trilogy.

431 minutes is a lot.

I just sold my copy of Berlin Alexanderplatz, because I knew I would never watch it again.

I was almost going to pull the trigger on Berlin Alexanderplatz but your comment has brought me back to reality and has dissuaded me from buying it. You saved me a good chunk of change. I, too, would only watch it once, if that.

Not even region-free (atm), but I'm not sure I can live with it.
I'm not region-free either but I've watched the CC blu a number of times, I think it looks pretty nice. Of course I have nothing to compare it to but the old DVD, and it's certainly better than that. One of my favorite noirs.

Its so weird you say that bc I just did the same thing. Im a huge Fassbinder fan. Loved World On A Wire & Eight Hours Don’t Make A Day but I knew Berlin Alexanderplatz was never going to be watched again.

Im on the fence with War & Peace as well. If you have the Criterion Channel I think someone said its starting on there in July. Im def going to watch before I buy.

https://costerol.com/?product_cat=&s...t_type=product
I ordered Police Story 1&2 for $19.99 and Stranger Than Paradise for $15.99
You get a 5% discount when you buy 2 or 3 blurays. Free shipping in June. No sales tax.
So my total is $34.18
Sounds too good to be true but I took a chance.

I'm not trying to rub it in, but the 72 minute interview with Richard Widmark on the UK BFI Blu is incredibly good and, in my opinion, trumps anything on the Criterion. If something like that is of interest, my advice would be to return the Criterion, go all region and pick up the UK Blu. Or don't, but at least go all region and do it now!

Well, according to the Costerol website, this is what they sell = "Costerol Store is an exclusive store for the world’s best animal themed apparels such as lion, donkey, mouse and so on"

and yet the only thing I see for sale are blu-rays?

They also list the complete TV series the Wild Wild West as blu-ray, yet the only version of that show is in DVD. Indeed the picture of the box set says "DVD" on it, yet it is listed as a blu-ray box set.

Call me a skeptic, but something doesn't seem right about that site.

Yeah, the whole website reeks of questionsbility but if worst comes to worst I can probably have PayPal help me out with a refund.

Just got the same message about them working on a fix for the shipping to Canada problem. Should be good to go in the next 24 hours.

Yeah, that and the lossless audio on the British cut is gnawing persistently at my bones.

Going to keep it wrapped and mull it over for a few days.

Damn, that was fast. I placed an order within hours of the sale going live and not only did B&N ship, it's already out for delivery. It was shipped UPS so I won't get it until Monday but, still, that was quick.

Bondarchuk's War and Peace is amazing, but it is very, very Russian; i.e., if you need the traditional "Hollywood" style narrative to get into something, it probably won't be your cup of tea. On the other hand, if you can appreciate, say, Tarkovsky--drawn-out takes, lingering over mood and atmosphere, long convos about philosophy and human nature, etc.--you might find Bondarchuk almost dynamic. Certainly W&P is fairly experimental in many places, especially visually. But if you're open to its idiosyncrasies, it can be among the most rewarding cinematic experiences you'll ever have.

Edit: Forgot to mention, I've seen it all the way through three times now--once on Kino DVD, once on FilmStruck before it shut down, and once the new restoration on the big screen. My estimation and enjoyment of it have grown each time.

After leaving the office early yesterday, I hit two stores and came away with most on my list for this sale. House of Games, Klute, 1984, and The BRD Trilogy should wrap it up. Should. And just a reminder - you may need to ask someone to pull any recent releases from a box somewhere. I wouldn't have gotten Blue Velvet or War and Peace yesterday if I hadn't.

Fantastic film. I heard Criterion has the rights to all of the other Juzo Itami directed films and keep hoping they will release them.

I was so early to the sale I had to wait on two discs to reduce in price. And, like you, mine has shipped and scheduled for delivery on Monday.

Went to B&N this morning and started off my pickups this month with:

I've seen all 5, so excited to dive into them again. I was lucky to find a dual-format of Picnic at Hanging Rock with the book, so I was not passing that up. Not the original 5 I had planned to buy, but I'm glad I went a bit on impulse this time around. Plus, I had $75 in gift cards from the holidays last year so all of this wound up costing just $26. Ecstatic with that.

I'll be going back later this month to pick up Blue Velvet, as well.

A Face in the Crowd sounds really interesting but it would be a blind buy for me. What's its replay value?

Same for Good Morning, while we're at it.
Thanks.

For those on the fence about buying Swing Time and War & Peace, they're coming to the Criterion Channel on July 11th and 18th respectively so you can watch them and then decide if you want them or not.

Picked 12 titles:

I kinda bummed out that my store didn't have Stranger Than Fiction, Night On Earth, A Night To Remember, Black Narcissus in stock. Was looking forward to those. Definitely going back later this month.
