Yes, Criterion very rarely do limited editions; those that have gone OOP have mostly been due to losing the rights. Playtime is one example that interestingly came back as part of the Tati box set, apparently due to the insistence of his estate that Criterion be allowed to release his films.

Lionsgate was pretty useless in that department. Did they release anything other than Grand Illusion?

Ran
Contempt
The Ladykillers
Delicatessen
The Third Man
La Grande Illusion
That Obscure Object of Desire

Not sure I would call the PQ on that anything close to excellent though.

This would be a very surprising release - and could be there’s nothing to this - but Janus Films just tweeted: “How to project DICK TRACY” https://t.co/6stNL8Z4yp

I hope Lionsgate loses the rights to those movies. But to me, it seems like Ran, Contempt, and all the other StudioCanal films aren't going to be getting any releases anytime soon (Including The Third Man and The Grand Illusion)

Something is telling me they're releasing a theatrical screening but at the same time my instincts are telling me this is too weird and bizarre for Criterion to do this. Janus Films is really trying to jangle up my nerves like how they release screenshots of Wong Kar Wai films every time for the past few years, making us believe there would be a box set coming later that year

Hmm wasn't following Janus but I am now. Just watched Persona as my first introduction to Bergman...and lo and behold...they use it as their profile pic. See...I never would have known that two days ago They even reminded me of Setsuko's 100th birthday yesterday! Tokyo Story is my favorite foreign film. I am on a roll today folks

I hope it happens. I can wait 'till Winter for a few titles, but there are some I'd love to have soon, especially during the Lockdown.

Would be amazing and hilarious, but I'm inclined to think it's just more of Janus' playing around...

Ordered 'Until the End of the World' and 'All About Eve' with my COVID coupon... crossing my fingers that I receive an updated case for Eve...but at least they are willing to replace, if not!

Just ordered New World & Safe. I've had such a hard time getting hold of New World. It was sold out at the last Criterion sale & hardly on ebay, well for decent prices anyway. That completes my Malick Criterions now & just need Voyage of Time for all his films

My two final 2 for £25 criterions are on their way too making a total of 8 with 6 1/2 being blind buys:
  • The Lure
  • Being There
  • Shock Corridor
  • The Naked Kiss
  • Holiday
  • Anatomy of a Murder
  • Tampopo
  • La Jetee/Sans/Soleil

Anatomy of a Murder is great film for sure. La Jetee is one of the best shorts I've seen. Straight to the point and doesn't waste any time.

I saw it on vimeo & loved it That's where the 1/2 comes from
Surprised there isn't a featurette with Gilliam on the release

I'm starting with the Lure because it looks just so interesting from the trailer. Shock Corridor & The Naked Kiss I bought just for the Dan Clowes art

How are they not OOP then? Or did they just produce a lot of these copies that no one bought? Ran still seems to be in same price

THIS JUST IN...

I just heard from my person at my local B&N that there WON'T be a 50% off Criterion sale this July. They just don't have the stock on hand (or in their warehouse) nor the personal in store to handle it. I guess we'll have to wait to see if it happens in November.
