[Show spoiler] "Since 1984, the Criterion Collection has been dedicated to publishing important classic and contemporary films from around the world in editions that offer the highest technical quality and award-winning, original supplements. No matter the medium—from laserdisc to DVD and Blu-ray to streaming—Criterion has maintained its pioneering commitment to presenting each film as its maker would want it seen, in state-of-the-art restorations with special features designed to encourage repeated watching and deepen the viewer’s appreciation of the art of film."

Not sure if in the meantime this has been disproven as a statement that Criterion will not publish 4K movies or similar, at the moment.
Although one could take that for granted, if that is not the case, then I wonder why Criterion would choose to issue All About Eve when it has been reissued in multiple editions around the world. I can't really pinpoint specific extras that would make it worth their while.
I don't think a company's mission statement is meant to give insight on specific questions like this. Criterion will release films that are available to them and which they consider important. They will include extras that they believe are relevant, even creating some features internally. They will sometimes use available restorations, and others they will perform themselves. Picture quality is an important consideration, but not the only one.

There is no "one size fits all" solution, and the collection has many exceptions to every rule. Criterion is ultimately running a business and will release a 4K title when they think it's feasible, beneficial and profitable to do so. Many posters have offered good insights why there's more to consider than simply releasing the highest resolution possible. That's why many great films remain available only through the Eclipse line.

I look forward to picking up my first Criterion 4K, but I'm not worrying about when that day will happen.

Personally I have no interest in 4K but as I mentioned, that discussion was "put to bed" with the "mission" explanation and I genuinely wondered why they wanted to release All About Eve when it was already so easily available with lots of extras.

Taking things back off topic, but Christopher Meloni in Wet Hot American Summer is one of my favorite playing-against-type roles. I don't love him in anything else, though he's always fine, but this comedic role is waaaaaaaay beyond.

Speaking of comedic against-type performances, I still think Matt Dillon in There's Something About Mary was a stroke of casting genius.

I agree MacMurray's performances in Double Indemnity and The Apartment both directed by Wilder are the two best against type performances for me.
And he ain’t exactly lovable in THE CAINE MUTINY either! Let’s face it: The guy was a great actor all the way around.

A more recent example of playing against type was Clint Eastwood in THE MULE and he was brilliant in it, one of his finest performances.

That shows up on TCM every so often. The mother apparently hit him and told him "That was not a Disney movie."

I recently watched Buckaroo for the first time & Lithgow totally steals that film!
Lithgow has been in amazing films thiugh: Garp, Cain, then he goes to 3rd Rock

In the Arrow interview right at the end, he says that he hasn't a clue what the film is about

I'm watching all my Malick criterions again in preparation for New World
Also bought all his other films that are sorta frowned upon

Went on a Hepburn spree this weekend watching Holiday(first time) Woman of the Year & The Philadelphia Story
Holiday was OK, was expecting there to be more of a love triangle. Love WotY. Such great chemistry & wish the alternate ending existed. PS is up there with my favourites. Virginia Weilder as Dinah is a true gem & adds so much. Shame she died so young

Fred was the inspiration for the look of Captain Marvel/Shazam. Now everytime I see Shazam - especially Alex Ross' - all I can see is Macmurray!

Now that I subscribed to Criterion Channel a few months ago, it's getting TOO big and at this point, I'm trying to save myself and my wallet for all the box sets and limited editions coming out this year.

If Criterion do release A Hidden Life, I doubt it will be for another year or two, if not longer

i just remembered back when Criterion released a barebones disc of Blue is the Warmest Color they said it was a temporary and would soon have a packed edition with more supplements. Like, there was a disclaimer on its page at the site and everything.

No reason to bring it up, just funny how they completely abandoned that promise.
