Any details of the supposed Ghostbusters release on Blu-Ray, will it have the same extras as the old DVD's or anything new, is the picture going to be remastered again, will we get music videos this time...?

It's unlikely you'll see the shadowrama/telestrator parts othe Ghostbusters/Men in Black discs again. They took it off on future discs because it requires royalty payments for the technology

I did hear that they had taken it of the most recent Ghostbusters DVD release a couple of years back, thankfully I still have my original DVD release. Although I heard that the newer DVD release had a newer remastered picture quality over the older DVD.

Can't wait for the Ghostbusters Blu-Ray disc release.

Is that the one where you see people in the audience on the screen?

Yes, and in MIB they drew on the screen like football

i attempted this with my settings as all options as in....

dolby digital: dobly digital
dolby digital: downmix pcm
audio(hdmi): auto
audio(hdmi): pcm

and all posable combinations of the above.

alternating between the two audio tracks i found......
the mbps my blu was displaying was the same on all accounts.
my ears couldn't notice any kind of difference.

my guess is one there is some hidden setting to make this thing internally decode, or two it just doesnt decode true hd and paid geek was misinformed. i would like to know which of these it is.

hey paid, my first post here and its a doozy, having some problems with the true hd and whether or not the bdp-s300 will do it.

my equipment is listed in my sig and everything is hooked up via hdmi. my players firmware is up to date. just wanted to confirm that the s300 can internally decode the true hd now, and how to accomplish this.

thanks in advance for the help.

Hey Krazeyeyez,
Someone else has been in here asking. Paid is working on it, just remember SPHE =/= SCE.

Paidgeek,

Was wondering if Meatballs will title some time in 2008? I was disappointed to see that it was shelved in 2007. Sony has done a great job on the catalog titles. A Few Good Men was amazing!!!

Question related to this. As disks transition to compressed audio are there plains to use the space saved for either 7.1 or 96k audio?

After hearing 7.1 compared to 5.1 its hard not to prefer it. I would assume the extra back channels would compress well and add little to the stream.

Of course we don't really know if a director would put a line into the matte if they actually had one, but I suspect they would since it interferes less with the picture.
Many thanks for your valued response.

The reproduction of an "ATSC video" that is created by a director for media entertainment can have subtitles put as intended in a 16x9 screen area, but for a films different aspect ratio, would not be an exact reproduction-copy of the films-original-artwork, unless the film was created in the 1.76:1 aspect ratio of the BD format.

Like OAR is coveted among film buffs & videophiles alike, it is important to stress that any HD media reproduction, purposely coveted for the total film experience, should have what was originally captured in the frame-artwork and viewed as it was at the public cinema.

As OAR is to the complete-reproduction-of-the-viewable-film-frame, Original Art Content includes the original subtitle structure in the frame.

It's just a matter of time where more people will be using anamorphic lenses for optimum capture, but I feel right now that it is just as important with the use of black matting around the projected film ratio, because subtitles can also be unreadable.

Dual position subs is a great suggestion for a standard-feature!

PLEASE!

Since subtitles are *player generated*...

couldn't *any* BD player be designed to reposition the subtitles if the user had access to a "2.35:1 subs" feature in the player itself? It shouldn't matter how the software is authored... if the player can just move the subs up above the bottom mask.

DVD players repositioned subs dynamically like this depending on whether the player was set up for a 16x9 or a 4x3 display. I can's see why a BD player couldn't be designed to similarly allow subs to be moved up for 2.35:1 viewing... and it should work regardless of disc.

Nope... There are actually two sets of subtitles on DVD's. They player does not re-position the subtitles, it displays the appropriate subtitle stream, as defined by the player's settings.

Ok,

so even if on DVD there are two distinct sets of subs (one for 4x3 and one set for 16x9 display) that doesn't mean that BD players can't just provide a "2.35:1" setting where they raise the subs above the the lower masked area of the 16x9 frame.

think that is easily doable, it should just the be the same set of tracks on a diff axis. another question tho would be whether they'd have to do this for every language or just english.

Exactly. That "axis" should be a programatic value that a BD player could manipulate dynamically on the fly. The defauls is "0" (subs start at their original raster position) and then you should be able to dial in any value or select from preset values to raise them up to any position on the screen.

We shouldn't even have to talk to Paikgeek/Sony about positioning their subs. We should be able to make the adjustment we want with our playback hardware.

Hey Paidgeek,

With Sony's resent annoucement that they would release over 100 titles this year, how soon do you think we'll get a full calender projection estimate for the year? Thanks

Hey Paidgeek,

A few weeks ago, I posted some questions related to Sony's (and other studios) lack of Blu-ray releases for some smaller film and TV releases. You responded (Post #533) to my original post (Post #503), but my question still wasn't exactly answered... yet I decided to just let it be. However, after a thread started by another member popped up regarding the same issues (Thread), and then this little bit of news came out:

Sony To Release 100 Blu-ray Titles In 2008

I figure the above announcement kind of answers my question as surely this means that Sony will be releasing more D&D titles as it probably wouldn't make a lot to sense to flood the market with this many catalogs in one year (at this point in Blu-ray's life). Am I wrong?

Thanks!
~Alan
