I agree, they're pretty good. There just always seems to be a few nutjobs that complain about every single title in existence.

Except when they license them to Twilight Time.

All of the transfers newly mastered in 4K should look fantastic. The cinematographer of Groundhog Day wrote a blog about tweaking the new 4K version and he seemed to be in awe of the detail that they got out of the image.

These are not the same as Superbit DVDs, again, because in the case of old movies, even if it ends up being downscaled to 1080p, the materials will be fresh. According to that cinematographer's blog (or maybe it was THR's report on the subject, both of which I think should be linked in this thread), Sony is specifically targeting films on which they can do brand-new scans, from the negative. Really looking forward to see how this pans out.

They did do the replacement of The Fifth Element, and although I can't deny it's contentious, don't Sony and American Zoetrope claim the transfer for Dracula is Coppola-approved?

I said this before, but I also expect these will have no extras, proving that they are not recycled discs. Adds to the whole "Superbit" reputation, though.

BSD was not them the master was from Coppola, they fixed Fifth Element, and who cares about the total recall remake really? and that was only sound.
Plus that is three, Universal Paramount and others barely have 3 good discs.

Based on the description on the covers - sounds like these are Superbit 2.0. But I'm interested in GhostBuster, if there's some good buzz about the transfer, I'm in.

I don't know what the issue with Total Recall is, but that would have nothing to do with Sony's restoration/remastering people. The other two are ancient history at this point. They put the occasional older, sloppy master on a disc (hence the need to fix some of them), but anything they say is a new restoration or remaster usually looks fantastic.

Bad is bad. "Who cares?" doesn't cut it.

Since they use new tech namely xvYCC they are far from superbit as superbit had the same masters as the regular dvd's normally.
These are new masters with extended colour and high bitrates.

For the few people that had that sound issue? really? grow up.
Is there some weird need for you to be right or have the final word? never did I say they are perfect, nor that they have not put out off discs.

Paramount's greatest sin is not having the kahunas to release their own major catalog titles. Instead they give them to Olive. This causes a 20-40% uptick in price and it continues to anger me.

But will the new colour tech actually translate to anything visibly different on the Blu-ray, seeing as the end product will be bound by BD's colour compression? The mantra is to always oversample the source, but with regards to the final product Sony's SBMV does a stellar job of reducing colour banding and whatnot already, so it's not like they needed help in that department.

Still, even though I'm skeptical about the tech side of things I'm VERY interested in seeing what happens with Ghostbusters and Spider-Man, purely because of what the new transfers will bring to the table.

Sony barely releases any catalog titles themselves anymore. I'm not sure what you're seeing.

Obviously I'm talking about picture quality. Even the stuff they dump onto TT often looks great.

I think so as long as your player and display can handle it, obviously something like amazing spider man is moot in that case, but the first you should notice

Triple dip for Ghostbusters on BD for me, then.

Anyone remember Superbit DVDs? I am having deja vu here.
