I agree, they're pretty good. There just always seems to be a few nutjobs that complain about every single title in existence.

All of the transfers newly mastered in 4K should look fantastic. The cinematographer of Groundhog Day wrote a blog about tweaking the new 4K version and he seemed to be in awe of the detail that they got out of the image.
These are not the same as Superbit DVDs, again, because in the case of old movies, even if it ends up being downscaled to 1080p, the materials will be fresh. According to that cinematographer's blog (or maybe it was THR's report on the subject, both of which I think should be linked in this thread), Sony is specifically targeting films on which they can do brand-new scans, from the negative. Really looking forward to see how this pans out. Quote:
I said this before, but I also expect these will have no extras, proving that they are not recycled discs. Adds to the whole "Superbit" reputation, though. Last edited by tylergfoster; 04-05-2013 at 05:22 PM. |

Based on the description on the covers - sounds like these are Superbit 2.0. But I'm interested in GhostBuster, if there's some good buzz about the transfer, I'm in.

I don't know what the issue with Total Recall is, but that would have nothing to do with Sony's restoration/remastering people. The other two are ancient history at this point. They put the occasional older, sloppy master on a disc (hence the need to fix some of them), but anything they say is a new restoration or remaster usually looks fantastic.

These are new masters with extended colour and high bitrates. For the few people that had that sound issue? really? grow up. Is there some weird need for you to be right or have the final word? never did I say they are perfect, nor that they have not put out off discs. Last edited by dvdmike; 04-05-2013 at 05:52 PM. |

Still, even though I'm skeptical about the tech side of things I'm VERY interested in seeing what happens with Ghostbusters and Spider-Man, purely because of what the new transfers will bring to the table. |

Sony barely releases any catalog titles themselves anymore. I'm not sure what you're seeing.
