What's the "con"? They're not saying the discs are 4K. They're saying the discs come from 4K transfers. A new transfer isn't a "con".

I am 100% sure about Glory (it was a 2K Master), and I think the first Spider-Man comes from a 2K Scan

Unless the original transfers looked like dogshit, I can't imagine the new ones would be so much better, let alone noticeable, that they warrant a double-dip, high prices, etc. I could be wrong but this seems like another Superbit situation.

And repackaging existing transfers like Taxi Driver isn't necessarily a con either.

Sony's restorations and transfers are almost all top-notch and there's nothing wrong with them trying to distingusih their excellent work from other lesser efforts.

If Ghostbusters has had all its problems from the current Blu-Ray fixed, it's not really a con then is it.

Rubbish, the better the master the better the end product, the best blu-rays out there for BC titles come from at a minimum 4k scans

Agreed. If we get a sweet looking Blu-ray of GHOSTBUSTERS out of the deal, I'm happy.

Perhaps, but Sony didn't use all the space on a disc when they released Superbit DVDs.

Also, for these "Mastered in 4K" Blu-rays, there's no indication that Bonus Features are being dropped to maximize video/audio.

This is not about bit rate, this is about finally not having crap masters.

They should've done it right in the first place.

Might double dip on Ghostbusters, depending on reviews of this line. I do wonder, though, if these will become the standard for future Sony Blu-Ray releases, or if we'll always be paying a premium for them.

Can't wait for the onslaught of mastered in 4k titles that get slammed for still having crappy transfers, DNR, color shifting, banding, using a poor master, etc... It's inevitable, just as with normal Blu-rays. LOL! They already DNR titles to death because they think it makes them look better to the casual high-def crowd, can't see any reason why it won't continue to happen.

Could they junk up these covers an more? I'm definitely not going to be double-dipping on these titles, just as I didn't for Superbit titles during the reign of DVDs -- and that's sort of what this is.

Since when is this a common practice for Sony?

There seems to be whiners when it comes to every transfer, no matter how perfect. I can't wait to hear people start complaining that they're still not happy.

Well, Sony does have a strong track record with the catalog titles. The only thing I loathe about Sony is the Cinavia junk they are throwing on their discs now. As far as DNR/EE go Universal takes the cake for that by a landslide.

Actually, releases of remastered Sony movies tend to be exceptionally uneventful on these boards, since there's rarely anything to ***** about. Those guys know what they're doing.
