No such thing...at least different that what was available on regular DVD.

Dolby Digital and DTS are lossy, which can be carried by the digital coaxial or optical cabels you speak of.

DolbyTrueHD and DTS-Master Audio (MA) are lossless, but are digital codecs.

Uncompressed LPCM (or sometimes just referred to as PCM, ie. Pulse Code Modulation) is the digital codec used for WAV files (CD music is in WAV format)

And like I said in my above post, if you have at least one piece of equipment that can decode DolbyTrue HD and DTS-MA, your receiver can output that thru the analog inputs using your Multi-Channel Input mode on your receiver.
It doesn't even have Dolby Digital Plus, just DTS-ES and Dolby Digital EX. I don't even think I can get PCM to work on my STR-DE598 via my Blu-ray player.
I know alot about codecs and CD's use PCM/WAV format. My Blu-ray player doesn't have multi-channel analog outputs though. I'm more willing to buy the receiver model I mentioned in my post you quoted and get more HDMI cables through monoprice. LPCM is Linear Pulse Code Modulation which I believe was first used on Laserdiscs.
I'm a steady but surely upgrader of my HT equipment. Next I bet is buying better speakers and a new sub-woofer.

If a disc has great AQ, then chances are even the core tracks you hear will sound pretty good as well. I am in the same boat as you right now. I would love to get a better receiver so I can experience movies such as Underworld with HD audio, but that's not a practical option for me right now.

The audio for the first X-Men really took me by surprise. There's one scene in particular the blows my mind every time I watch it - when the jet flies for the first time.

might of already been mentioned, but if you want to check out your subs capabilities, try out the new Star Trek, anytime any ship jumps to warp, it should feel (not sound) like someone has punched you in the chest, some subs cant do punchy very well, and are only good at making boom noises

Hey guys i do believe that the best audio format is DTS MA hands down, now as far as movies go, there are allot of movies that sound great, Terminator Salvation,Black Hawk Down, Inglorious Bastards etc. But we need to focus on consistency, PIXAR is the only studio that make Amazing audio every movie they make, and please dont use the excuse that they make animated movies, because 90% of the audio you hear in movies are developed separately with the Picture itself.

I rate Audio formats like this
1.Uncompressed LPCM
2.DTS-MA
3.DD Tru HD
4.DD

Pretty sure its been mentioned once or twice

Lots of great sub scenes in Star Trek...........One of my favorites is when they are stuck trying to warp toward the end............FEELS like the whole house is the Enterprise and going to come apart! This is a LONG sustained LFE blast that literally blows you away.........I LOVE IT!

I would rate them like this.................

1. 3 way tie between the first 3 on your list
2. DD

lossless is lossless............

I was surprised with how good the Ghost in the Shell 2.0 audio was. The Japanese 6.1 audio was pretty great.

Ghost in the Shell 2.0 has a reference track for sure...agreed.
Wanted is insane.
Inglourous Basterds is insane too.
Wildhogs is very very very insane with it's crystal clear tracks and directional audio.
Startrek is another reference one as well.

The opening scene of Gamer is probably the best sound I've heard on Blu-Ray to date and I own all the usual suspects(Master and Commander, Black Hawk Down, Cloverfield, Terminator Salvation, etc). The DTS-MA 7.1 track is simply mind-blowing....too bad the movie itself isn't that great.

Oh ya, Star Trek's got some super bass-y stuff.

Another good one is the Chinese film, City of Life and Death. There a scene towards the end where the Japanese are doing a festival dance thing to some drums. Those drums give a punch every time they're hit. Some of the best audio ever.
