About two weeks ago I picked the X800 at Best Buy and its an excellent 4k Ultra Bluray player, but with a few drawbacks that are very minor to me. I had an Xbox One S, I tried the Samsung UBD-K8500 a few times, I also tried the Panasonic DMP-UB900, and the Oppo UDP-203.

Here are my experience with these players before getting the X800
Xbox One S: HDMI handshaking issues about half the time, pq was average.
Samsung UBP-K8500: handshaking issues about 95 percent of time. I tried around 4 of them and same issue. PQ was good
Panasonic DMP-UB900: lip sync issues, overpriced by $300, pq was excellent
Oppo UDP-203: audio dropouts, disc playback issues, pq is excellent

The Sony UBP-X800 is an excellent 4k ultra bluray player and its a keeper for me. Here is my experience with the Sony X800
Pros
1. It provides excellent pq on blurays movies and 4k movies in original resolution on my Sony 55X930D
2. Excellent build quality
3. No hdmi handshaking issues
4. No problems with disc playback

Cons
1. No time on front display
2. It takes a few seconds for it to output a 4k Netflix movie or tv show to my tv

The Sony UBP-X800 maybe the last physical media device for me. Currently about 60 percent that I watch is on physical media. I getting more interested in 4k streaming and I have the 2017 Nvidia Shield TV. What I'm currently seeing is that 4k streaming has worst pq then 1080p bluray movies especially with Vudu that does not have HDR playback on the UHD movies, it only has Dolby Vision HDR. With Netflix 4k HDR and regular 4k playback can be good or bad.

I heard that Apple will be releasing the next gen Apple TV 4k streamer sometime this year and who knows if they are going to be using Dolby Vision HDR or HDR. Also who knows what 4k movies will look like in iTunes. I hope that they support both HDR and Dolby Vision HDR.

Wow! Passengers looked gorgeous! Now I'm impressed. My TV is a SDR LG and I have never seen a picture that nice.

I am distraught I can't get Rogue One next month on the format. I may just hold out till year end, and see if Disney joins the party.

I was having a PQ problem but then I read your post and switched the output for resolution from Auto to Original Resolution and voila, the picture was absolutely gorgeous!! Thank you!!

I have not got around to turning HDR off yet to see what happens on my 930D as I promised two pages ago, but I will. I'm confused though. If you turn HDR off on the player does that mean it does not send HDR at all to the TV?
I am no expert by any means but I have read all through the AVS Thread on the 930D and have done a lot of research. From my understanding you would be correct despite what Sony has informed another member on this thread. If you turn HDR off on the player you are no longer getting HDR to the TV. When HDR gets sent from the player to the TV then the TV gets locked in HDR Mode that is why you cant switch to another picture setting. I have also had the same thing happen when using Sony 4K app to stream movies if the source is HDR then the TV automatically goes into HDR mode. If HDR is turned off on this player what you are getting is basically 4K without HDR. If you hit Display on the remote while playing a 4K Disc with HDR and HDR mode turned on through the player it will say 4K/24 HDR. This Player and the Oppo can strip the HDR meta data by making it 4K without HDR by simple turning off HDR in the player settings. From my understanding only a few players can do that the Panasonic might be able to also but I have never owned that player. I know the Samsung and Phillips can't do that.

The Panasonic can do that, yes. It can output a 4K SDR 709 conversion or a SDR 2020 version that retains the WCG (though this is display-dependent).

Love the look and feel of it. I will only be playing discs on it for the foreseeable future so I'll leave the streaming comments to the experts.

Honestly, I don't see enough of an upgrade (on my SDR TV) that I would rebuy my collection, but I would certainly purchase all new discs on the format.

C'mon Marvel/Disney!!!!!!
Moral of the story: ALWAYS turn off BD Audio Mix on a Sony BD player.

The only good thing about the UHP-H1 is the audio playback due to the analog outputs, which you have no use for and its shares the same video processor as the BDP-S6700 that your tried out a while back ago.

You also mentioned that you have a Roku Ultra and its having sound chirping issues. I would recommend you to sell the Roku Ultra because you wasted money on it. Buy a refurbished or new Apple TV 4 (Best Buy has the 32GB version on sale), since its only the best 1080p streamer thats currently in production. I read that the Vudu App will be coming to the Apple TV later this year.
If I resell my Roku Ultra, the buyer most likely will complain to me about the chirping and want his money back, even if it's a firmware issue. The chirping happens about 12-15 times during a 2 hour movie streamed through Vudu on my Roku Ultra. I will just use my Xbox One for Netflix and Vudu streaming. Buying a 4th gen Apple TV is going a bit extreme since there is no Vudu app for the Apple TV, I don't want to switch to iTunes since my Vudu library is 3 times larger than my iTunes library, and I use Vudu frequently.

Actually I would rebuy my Star Trek stuff and my Marvel stuff and my classic sci-fi.

Wait! That's 90% of my collection.
Well take this to the bank -- I won't upgrade Groundhog Day or Innerspace!

Tell me real quick then, what settings do you have everything else on the player turned to?

Mine should be here by the 29th. Not sure why the delay but that's fine. Going to send the Samsung to the secondary setup.

I know everyone talks about cables here and there. I ordered a set of the Amazon Basics 18gbs (first time using them). Usually order from Monoprice, but as of today, they are on my shit list and I will probably avoid them for anything from this point on. Out of pocket almost $50 because of their inability to check items they send out and make sure they contain every piece needed to make their crap work.

The manual is kind of vague. Does this send out 1080p for blu-rays? I have it set to output at 4k all the time and everything looks great.

There is a setting that has to be set up properly. Under system settings> HDMI audio output [HDMI2] setting outputs audio signal via HDMI OUT 2 jack.

I did that already, I turn the BD Mix off, I have reset the player twice & unplug and plug the cable, I also check the HDMI cable with the Samsung player and it worked and still no audio

Your receiver, pre-amp, or soundbar must have an HDMI version 1.4 or higher port. That's the deal with all UHD disc players.
