My player locked up twice yesterday playing Ghostbusters. I haven't updated it and it played fine all the way through a couple months ago. Anyone have an idea?

And next reset unplug it for thirty seconds.
If you are using one HDMI output, use two.

Last but first thing to do: Clean the disc, even if it's clean, with dish soap and a dry soft cloth.

Can't say I've had lockup issues with my X800. I have had skipping/digital distortion issues though on 5-6 discs. It seems like a bit of a finicky player, if there's even a minor mark on a disc it'll screw it up. So yeah clean it thoroughly.

I already use 2 HDMI outputs so I guess I'll just make sure the disc is clean.

Added this player to my setup recently but for some reason it always outputs audio tracks to my receiver as PCM instead of DTS-MA or Dolby on blurays? I've tried changing some settings but it still seems to keep doing it. Does anyone know what i'm missing? I've had my player for a year and since reading jruc03's question and Geoff D's response it's like I purchased a completely different surround system. The sound is absolutely amazing from my surround sound since I made the suggested change. It's amazing what one change to the settings can do.

Someone else asked this earlier in the thread but I couldn't find a response. Does anyone know if there is a mod kit for this player to make it region free?

I am not aware of any; you'd have to buy a region-free Blu-ray player.

It would be cheaper to buy a used Oppo 93 or 103 BR player on eBay or from a private sale and buy the kit on eBay.

I think there are cheaper region-free BR players. Just make sure they play region A, B and C Blu-rays.

has anybody updated services today and notice something strange in feature apps you got hula crackle and white box blue symbol I click on it saying function with gracenote will end running across and when click inside

It saids functions with gracenote will be terminated on feb 28th 2019
disc infomation download music search and video search will not be available

what does that mean?

i even try to unplug and replug bluray player its still there i have never seen this happen before btw

now this isn't software update because i'm already up to date

this is whenever turn on bluray player ever once in awhile get a message in all apps saying update services aka connect to video services internet 1, 2, 3 setup watch stuff like Netflix I done this a million times btw even last week

i have no problems watching something like Netflix


however I don't understand to left side feature apps right after crackle I see a box letter I when click on it saying gracenote function will end

Gracenote is a thing that looks up the disc online and puts info on the screen like the box art or cast. That message is saying Sony are discontinuing the service, so you will no longer see Gracenote information after that date.

The function to display disc-related information of CD, DVD and Blu-ray Disc using the Gracenote database through internet connection will be terminated on the Blu-Ray Disc players listed below from 28th February 2019.

Downloading disc-related information such as music title name, track name, artist name etc, and searching the information on Gracenote database, also known as Music Search and Video Search, will not be available following the termination.

The function will be terminated for all affected players and will be removed from some of those players via firmware update done at 28th February 2019.

This termination does not affect playing CDs, DVDs and Blu-ray Discs and displaying the disc information that are included on the disc itself.

We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused.

I wished some folks who recently had to update services under all apps have seen over to left side 2nd row hulu crackle and a strange box letter I saying gracenote will end under feature apps when turn on this 4k bluray player surely i'm not only person seeing that meh

is it me or did recommendation box that used to show a pic of something like stop working last night and still not working left side down at the bottom

you got opera tv spotify and next box saying recommendation it was showing it all day I was watching a movie stop it went main menu went away

now I have look at another sony bluray player in den BDP-S3200 gracenote function also ending on that machine I went over recommendations I also notice it stop working as well

I don't know if this doing somebody else bluray player when turn on is server down and sometime afterwhile or end of the day it will come back up is it due to gracenote ending in feb 28 of next year and that's why it stop working or what

I have try to unplug and plug up bluray player unhook and rehook hdmi back of bluray player I got nothing

I sure hope user lordoftherings can shed some light of what is going telling me i'm not alone meh

Wish I could help, but I don't use any apps on the X800. My TV's apps are better quality. I also always had Gracenote turned off anyway.

The Gracenote logo info we also get in Canada.
The Recommendation logo (Action Cam / YouTube channel) is gone now, it is two grey arrows in circle and says: "No Recommendation".

* You guys in the USA have more apps than us in the Canada.
Me personally I never use any apps, only Netflix occasionally for some good Documentaries.
Netflix is a common app present everywhere, except in the Oppo 203 and 205 players which are not made no more, with Oppo Digital having closed its doors last April.
