At any rate, I'm fine waiting another day, but I'm getting excited to get this and hook it up and try out some of the movies and see if I'm able to tell any difference between this player and the Xbox One S I have been using. |

Is anyone having an issue with the HDR setting on Netflix? With the HDR setting on Auto on the machine and then trying to watch HDR shows on Netflix, the picture is all washed out but when I switch the HDR setting to Off, the picture is beautiful. I find this very odd. If anyone else is experiencing this, please let me know.

You sure about that? I'm fairly certain the KU6300 only supports rec709. Unless I remember incorrectly and you have a different tv.

I'm just going by what I've read, only player I have owned was the Samsung which offered jack shit for options. Pretty sure many have discussed the Panny's 2020 SDR though.

Got the player this evening. Set up on the player was a breeze. Tested Billy Lynn's Half Time Walk on it for a few minutes.
PROS: The player loads discs noticeably faster than the Samsung UHD Blu-Ray player. Colors on UHD discs look more vibrant, sharp and natural. Nice sturdy premium feel to it, wider and heavier than the Samsung. The player allows you to set the video resolution to original which is nice so you don't have to keep changing it when you decide to play a regular 1080p blu-ray disc or a DVD which natively are lower resolutions than UHD so your TV can do the upscaling of the video itself. It has a better remote control with all the functions that you need. It has a nice on screen display which you can choose to have displayed on the fly with the remote that shows data about what you are playing, stats that are displayed: -Resolution (also if HDR is displayed) -Chapter -Video Codec -Video bit rate -Sountrack playing plus the bitrate CONS: The firmware update took a little longer than I thought it would but it wasn't too long, I have the player hooked up to wi-fi with a 200 Mbps connection. Lack of apps but this is forgivable since they will more than likely be adding more down the road. Like others have noted the Sony Ultra app is not on it, but I don't mind since I have it on my Sony X850D tv. |

Does anyone know what the Internet Services Update actually is, because it is almost a daily occurrence? With only 4 apps, and not seeing changes within the apps, what are they updating separate from FW?

I also tested out Luke Cage with the settings on auto and played it in 4k HDR and it looked great. Maybe its a setting on your TV that is the issue. |

My Sony BD player does this and I love it. It's a great way to check certain aspects of the disc. Excited to hear the UHD player has the same.

I would caution against automatically expecting SDR 2020 from the Panny, it needs to be sent a specific EDID from the display before it pipes it out, i.e. it's not a manually selectable feature. Even if you can turn off HDR on the TV (some allow you to turn off the 2.0a feature) it may default to sending out a command that it can only accept SDR 709.

Man, now I'm a bit bummed out.
I ordered this player on Monday for in-store pick up at my nearest Best Buy for today. On Tuesday that Best Buy shows on their website that they have it in stock, but less than 3, so I go and am told their store on-hand inventory shows 1 in stock, but they can't find it (and I suspiciously see what looks like the box up at Customer Service, but the the rep didn't want to actually check and see if that was it or not). "Oh well," I think, I'll just wait until Thursday. I get an email this morning telling me that I won't be able to pick it up today, and instead will have to wait until Tuesday, 3/14 because my store "would not receive it in time" and in that email it says I have the option to check around at other stores to see if they have it; so I do that and another store in my town has exactly ONE on hand (and I called the store and they verified that), but now I'm being told that I actually cannot change the store pick-up because apparently the original store I used for store pick-up is "in the process of doing a transfer" Man...I just was hoping to get it picked up so that I could try it out this weekend, I work way too many hours during the week to truly get to use it. Ah well, I guess I can't do anything but way... |
