I've had the 800 and 900 for more than 3 days, and just sold the 900 for more than I paid for the Sony. The Sony will remain the main UHD player and streamer in my HT for the foreseeable future.

Does it support automatic refresh rate switching to 24p for Netflix and Vudu? Also when exiting a movie in Netflix or Vudu or going back to the home screen from Netflix or Vudu does the refresh rate return to 60hz? I tried a BDP-S6700 and it would not return back to 60hz after exiting a movie in Netflix or Vudu or going back to the home screen exiting Netflix or Vudu. I was wondering if the X800 has the same issue?

Hopefully Best Buy and other retail stores will continue to sale optical media like audio CD’s, DVD’s, and Blu-ray’s.
If the so called experts are correct one day optical media will disappear, if so maybe the second or third generation of 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray players might be the last. If optical discs do one day disappear then everyone will be using streaming (or download to hard drive option). PCFAN I also want to know the answer to your question, however most of the time, the only way someone is going to be able to tell if a streaming device is outputting 24fps (24Hz) is if their display reports the incoming frame (Hz) rate. Many displays only report the resolution and not the frame rate. Or the streaming device needs to report the outgoing frame (Hz) rate, but I have never seen any streaming device report this information, so you are better off finding a display or A/V receiver that has a info screen that shows the incoming Hz rate used. The worst 4K BR title ever. IMO ...Unless you're a hard-core fan and that your display is specifically calibrated for this title. Even the 3D version cannot make for this fiasco. IMO * 'Nocturnal Animals' is not bad. ...On Blu. IMO ...But it's no 'Last of the Mohicans' either. ...Way of speech. P.S. I like your new avatar John; it's really you. ![]() ![]() |

Rtings and other reviews updated to show my set accepts a 10-bit signal and displays a 2020 gradient just fine. I don't know the tech ins and outs of such things, but I know that means I would like a player that sends that signal to at least compare.

To be fair many others like myself thought dynamic mode looked terrible.

You're right about the TV being able to display 10 bit gradients fine. Rtings did update that part of their review: Quote:

I remember people discussing the TV's color coverage in gaming subreddits and this was brought up often. |

The source is not important (they all reproduce a similar image video, depending of the video processor), the display is more. IMO ...And of course the 4K BR transfer. ![]() Last edited by LordoftheRings; 03-11-2017 at 03:40 AM. |

I definitely noticed a color difference with the Samsung outputting its signal, but maybe that was conversion? In any event it sounds like the Panny won't send me a 2020 signal either, so maybe I might as well get this player. Hrmph. |

When playing a 4K Blu-ray in this machine with the HDR setting turned to Auto, the picture is all washed out with no contrast and dull colors, but if I turn it off the difference is amazing. The picture is absolutely beautiful. Anyone else experiencing this?

If you're used to a proper image and lower brightness and in a dark room then I dunno, time to play with the settings I guess. |
