Dynamic mode is preferable only on certain titles for me. Like Mad Max: Fury Road. The colors on the UHD looked nothing like the Blu-ray on Standard mode. Switching to Dynamic remedied that.

If you're used to a proper image and lower brightness and in a dark room then I dunno, time to play with the settings I guess.
No, it's just the opposite! With HDR turned to Auto the picture is too dull and washed out with absolutely no contrast. I had the same problem with the Samsung 4K Blu-ray player so it has to be the TV that's causing the problem.

Did you change the HDMI settings to Enhanced for the appropriate port?

Any idea when Amazon will have this in stock? I have a ton of gift cards i've been saving up and wanted to use them on this.

I just got the KS8000 yesterday so i'm almost tempted to run out to Best Buy and grab it but i'm hoping it'll be available on Amazon sooner than later.

Uh, that's not the opposite. With HDR set to auto it is using HDR. You might find HDR too dark or washed out if you're used to a more vivid or bright presentation than advised for home theater.

So my store-pickup for this player only ended up being delayed 1 day instead of until 3/14 (like my delayed notification email told me), and I was able to pick this up on Friday.

After getting it all hooked up, I did throw in The Lego Movie and I know that I could immediately tell a difference in just about everything in comparison to my Xbox One S. Even my fiancée, who has told me many times that she "isn't sure she understands or sees a difference" said that she could tell the picture was sharper and clearer.

I threw in Guardians of the Galaxy today and it looked pretty dang good for a BD disk as well.

So, thus far, I'm VERY excited with my purchase, and I'm going to pop in Star Wars: The Force Awakens a little bit later today and see how that looks (side note: for owners of the KS8000 series, there's the HDR+ mode that is used to "add in HDR" for non-HDR source formats--there definitely is a difference in the picture when you turn that on while watching Blu-Ray's, I could see one when I was flipping it on/off while watching GotG).

Is everyone getting their emails from Sony for their free 4Ks pretty quickly? I've sent mine out on Fri and am wondering if I submitted the wrong SN? My box had 3 different sets of numbers that could've been the SN?

Thank you, brother.

Can't wait to get this. Looked at some of the Interstellar IMAX footage through my ps4 last night and even that looked stunning so i'm really looking forward to getting a proper UHD player.

They give it four business days.

This player also isn't agreeing with my Samsung KS8000. I have to turn off the HDR output on th player or the picture is dark and dull when I watch a UHD disc. It's ****ing annoying. So far my experience with UHD blu-ray has been less than stellar.

Same questions to you about your TV settings. HDR is going to be shockingly dark and dull for people used to more vivid picture settings.

I thought HDR was supposed to IMPROVE the picture, not make it worse?

It's not the UHD that sucks, I'm beginning to think it's the f*****g HDR. When I have it turned off, the 4K UltraHD blu-rays look absolutely stunning.

HDR content shouldn't be more dull and dark than SDR content on my properly calibrated 1080p tv. HDR content shouldn't look worse than SDR content on my 4K TV. The UHD of star trek into darkness on my 4k tv shouldn't look worse than the BD of Star Trek Into Darkness on my 1080p tv. The UHD of STID shouldn't look worse than the BD of STID on my 4K tv. It does so clearly there is a problem. And it shouldn't look significantly worse than the HDR content coming from my PS4 Pro. Something isn't kosher with this Sony UBP-X800. Idk if its a handshake issue or a firmware issue, but until it's resolved its damn near useless as a UHD player.

It provides a wider color range and better contrast. What me and you and others are seeing when HDR is set to Auto is NOT how HDR is supposed to look. Idk why this player is causing this problem, but I know something isn't right. I guess for the time being keep HDR turned off in the X800. Maybe Sony or someone can figure this shit out eventually.

Thank you! I was beginning to think I was the only one experiencing this problem! I had the same problem with the Samsung 4K player but that one didn't have the option to turn the HDR off, so I couldn't even play any 4K UHD movies on it and had to settle for watching regular Blu-rays, which looked great but it's pretty sad when a Blu-ray looks superior to a 4K disc on a 4K player. Thankfully the Sony does have the option of turning the HDR off.

Is it only certain TV's this is a problem with? I have no such issue with my KS8000. This player gives me better PQ than the K8500 it replaced. My PQ is the farthest from being dark or dull and is definitely better than the standard blu discs upscaled. Same goes for the K8500 only this player I feel does an even better job.

I think I read something on AVS that someone who tested the player recommended leaving deep color on auto other wise the player didn't properly display 10 bit patterns or something along those lines. I turned deep color off on my K8500 but just left everything on auto on the Sony. Only thing I turned of was the BD audio mix.You can also try changing the color space and check out forcing 4:2:2 or 4:4:4. Also try bypassing any AVR if you are running through one just to eliminate all other possibilities.
