Same here and it's been great. The only things I use my X800 for are UHD, BD, and DVD. PLEX, Amazon, and VUDU go through my display. Both devices are hard-lined as well.

Hello

I returned my X-800 today to Worten store

I liked the device visually,

It is a heavy, sturdy, excellent device in this aspect.

was the second SONY X-800 it had in the space of a month

the problem was always the same, I used it only to play DVD movies and 2 or 3 on Blu-ray and after 30 hours +/- went into hibernation, receiving no operation from the remore control

now I am observing the new line 2018 of PANASONIC the DP-UB9000, or UB 820 or UB420

Thank you

That's why you can buy an Oppo 4K BR player for; without apps from hell.

But the Sony S790 is an older player, and those are no good good anymore for streaming.
I have the S770, and the apps suck.
I have an Oppo 103, and the apps suck.

The problem with apps is that they are not supported for very long, or they simply missing the boat; case in point with the X800...only DD audio, ...not even DD+.

Oppo knew what they were doing when they said tuck all of this, no more apps from hell. And they were right.

Look, we love apps, we love 4K streaming and Atmos streaming, we love it all and we hate dysfunctionality.

The Sony X800 is a sweet player, equals to others in some aspects, better in other aspects, and less expensive than some because it doesn't have all the connections that most people don't even use, and no display that most people don't even need, and no broken Dolby Vision because it has none.

It's the perfect 4K player for the perfect people with the perfect needs, nothing more nothing less and the price is right for 99% of the world's population.

If I want a Bugatti no sweat, I just go and buy one, but today the price of gas here on my island is $1.70 a liter, for premium. That Bugatti averages about 6 miles to the gallon on the highway, and in the city about 4 miles to the gallon. So, ...

There is also an Oppo 205 that you can put your name on the sweepstake list.
...Or his little brother the 203. Are those available in Portugal?

LG is also coming up with new players. And check later this Christmas for Pioneer, Sony, ... We are just starting.

hello
Many thanks for the reply

in Portugal there is

OPPO 203 765 euros

SONY 1000ES 660 euros, (this can happen the same problem of the X800 ??? )

LG does not want to be Chinese.

then there are still in Portugal the Panasonic UB820 or UB420 or DP-UB9000

I thought to import to Portugal from here,

We'll have to be patient with Panasonic newer players in summer and fall, with Oppo future firmware updates for Dolby Vision and Tone Mapping, with Pioneer to see if they're going to penetrate the market, with LG new DOVI player, with Sony next Elevated Standard 4K Blu-ray player with advanced HDR, Dolby Vision, Tone Mapping, extra video chip processing power and smart implementation.

The future looks brighter ahead.

I didn't know the 1000ES was officially available in Europe, I thought it was US only?

simply, as the Panasonic is a newer design, hopefully a well built, providing improved performance, seems logical to focus on it

regarding the Sony and Oppo, they are older designs that are 'going away'

currently, were i looking for a player, it would be either the Panasonic players with Dolby Vision or the just released LG UBK90 (quite affordable), which shows promise as well, with Dolby Vision and excellent picture quality (note :: the previous UP970 had IR remote limitations and potentially noisy drives, which would certainly be improved in both areas - so, i would expect this new design to have substantially improved drive performance and IR remote performance as well; of course, the picture quality should be outstanding)

just a few thoughts

Between the three you mentioned one of them is not here yet, not until summer 2018, and between the Sony 1000 and Oppo 203 the Oppo is the one with a much Elevated Standard than the Sony. ...The 203 is without the shadow of a doubt the better player, the one to have now. ...The better all around performer, the overall better value, the much more featured player, the more solidly build, better engineered, better conception, better care behind, better team, better crew, better support, better better.

No player is perfect but the Oppo 203 is closer to it than others, for many people, in the now.

The Sony 800 is the better deal between it and the 1000ES @ their list price.

Portugal is a nice country, the decors are magic, the wines fitting, the people right on.

Not all streaming apps can stream Atmos.
Just use Dolby Surround, the Atmos up-mixer.

What service are you making reference to? IIRC, Netflix has Atmos on XBox and maybe one other device. Don't know about Amazon and other services.

Sad the X800 didn't work out, but did you have all the firmware updates in place before it was returned?

If you don't need SA-CD functionality, then get one of the Panasonic models. Otherwise, a Sony should be in your rack.

It's still early days for 4K/UHD, so there's bound to be stability issues afoot. Get something cheap for now and wait for the technology to mature. I would wait for the Sony X700 release soon.
