I think some others waaaaaay back in the day said this player only outputs 4:4:4 for 4k. I forget the details, but I'm pretty sure that was the case.

I've had always set my X-800 to 4:4:4 and not to Auto, I think 1080p BD's (no upscaling done on the player but by my Samsung 49" 4K HDR set) look cleaner and it doesn't seem/look to have an efect on 4K HDR playback. Maybe my Samsung TV set chroma upsampling from 4:2:2 to 4:4:4 (and eventualy to RGB) is a bit subpar and the Sony X-800 does a better job at it and that's why regular BD's look better.

I tried setting it to 4:4:4 last night after reading your post and the two BDs I watched did maybe look slightly "cleaner." That could be a placebo though.

Does anyone have this bluray player hooked up to a Sony X900e. I've got both TV and player hooked up to a reviver using HDMI 2 because that port has the enhanced display signal for HDR. I get not picture using that setting. I have to switch the TV (HDMI 2) back to standard display. I have the HDR setting on the Player on Auto. I have my Xbox One X also hooked up and it works fine with the enhanced setting on that HDMI port. Any info greatly appreciated.

I have it connected to a Sony X900 e on HDMI 2(Enhanced Mode On).... Did you check your cable? Is it Premium (HDMI 2.0)?

It's not a night and day difference, it's subtle, but for me it is there.

I have been running this on my 1080p sony xbr. Missed the boat on upgrading before they totally killed 3D. If I upgrade I loose my 3D so staying put. Have figured out turning off the 4K up converter really improves the picture. Turn it from auto to off. For those still running it on a 1080p tv.

Don't you get black crush from the SDR conversion? On my Samsung set turning off HDR causes massive, massive black crush on any conversion setting.

Yes, it does. Sony projector shows that on the info screen.

Default Sound Issues on Netflix App

When I go to play a movie or show, rarely will it play with 5.1 sound. When it does, it eventually cuts out after a few minutes and goes mute. The only way for me to get the audio back is to change to the non-5.1 sound option. Any help with a fix would be appreciated.

I don't think there are many TVs (if at all) that show that info?

Are you using the second HDMI output for sound only?

No, one hdmi for video and audio. I didn't think using, if I am saying this right, arc would make a difference. And if so, would it have to be a 4k 2.2 hdcp cable for the audio?

Question. I recently got this player. I’ve watched some movies now with no issues with PQ with my TV set to game mode so there is no motion interpolation. However, when watching some of the Harry Potter films recently there seemed to be some weird motion. It looked fine for one portion of the movie and then it’s luke it started having some motion issues randomly. I’ve looked at the settings and still can’t figure it out. I think it might be because of a player setting but I’m not sure. Any suggestions? I have 24p set to auto.

Does this issue happen at the Standard/General picture setting on the TV with all artificial enhancements disabled as well? What brand is your TV?

Game mode disables the soap opera effect on the tv itself. It’s worked great. Film mode still has it even with auto motion plus disabled. Most stuff I’ve watched on this player so far have not had any issues.

But it seems almost like a player issue. Not sure exactly.

Could it be because my tv is 120hz? I know the multiplier of 24 fits. So the 24fps should be fine. If I select 24p it causes a audio delay but on auto there is no audio delay.
On the off setting the player displays 60p. That also fits into the 120hz of the tv.

In any case I’m wondering if there’s some setting that might help. The first two Harry Potter movies looked AMAZING but the others (digital instead of film) have had scenes that look perfect and others where the motion isn’t as smooth.

I’d check out the 60p setting more but movies are 24fps so I’m not sure if that’s a good idea or not.
