I've long complained on here that my copy of Dunkirk won't work on this machine. It's not the disc as it works fine on my Xbox One X and more recently my Panny UB820 without issue. I've had the player give me momentary freezes on a couple of other titles too... coincidentally they've mostly been from Warner Bros, although John Wick 2 froze once as well. I also wipe whatever residue off that's on my discs with a microfibre cloth so it's not a cleanliness thing. I got a replacement player from Sony once too even that had problems with Dunkirk and freezing once in a blue moon. It's not a deal breaker of a problem since it does well enough, like, 98 % of the time. It's a great player for the price. But it does have its kinks and buyers should be aware that they exist. |

Endless posts of "it works fine for me" don't really matter, no offense to those offering them. No one is saying all X800s are broken. We're simply saying that judging by personal experience and anecdotal evidence from the interwebs it does seem to have issues for some folks. Whether that percentage is above the average failure rate for electronics I don't know, but me personally having two in a row bonk out on me is a pretty bad sign.

It depends, if your TV supports Dolby Vision.

Mine (that I had gotten from Target for $89 on clearance a while back) still works fine and had no major hassles. The only issue that I did have was the units built in WiFi would never work and constantly disconnect (my Roku and S5 never exhibit this issue). I couldn't find anything about this with the UBP X800, but going wired fixed it's internet issues (and streaming video quality is far better than it was on the shitty WiFi).

What would be quieter for playing Blu-rays, the UBP-X800 or the BDP-S6700? The UBP-X800 is $199.99 at Best Buy right now and the S6700 is $99.99. I used to own a BDP-S6700 and I did not find the drive that loud when playing Blu-rays but I sold it because I was switching to digital at the time. Should I just buy the S6700 now and wait for next year's 4k Blu-ray players, especially since I don't own a 4k TV. Is it a common issue for the X800 to drop the resolution to 480i sometimes on power up requiring the user to go back to the settings to set the resolution to where it was? One of my relatives had the X800 but I returned it for her, it was quiet when playing 4k discs but it had this issue about going to 480i sometimes after power up but I'm not sure if it was just a defective player as nobody in the user reviews I read so far mentioned a problem like this with the X800.

I absolutely love this player and I love how bulky it is and not as "cheap looking" but do keep in mind it doesn't come with Dolby vision. I am going to keep it for as long as possible until a cheaper player comes along with dolby vision and is a quality build such as this and not cheap.

I've now tried Step Brothers (which is a Sony Disc) and Solo 4K UHD's, and Teen Titans Go to the Movies & Pixar Short Films Vol. 3 regular Blu's, and all 4 of them given the ? mark "Unknown Disc" error. All 4 are brand new and just opened (and cleaned). So now I'm kinda concerned the new update bricked my machine, and pissed at the same time. |

Sony is playing games or is incompetent? That's no good, no good @ all.
Sony it's Christmas Holidays, you better fix it. They wouldn't break their player with the latest firmware update, Sony no way would do that, right? Try cleaning all your discs with dish soap and warm water. And get a disc lens cleaner; one with eight or ten tiny little brushes. Blow compressed air inside the open disc drawer in the laser lens direction, using the small tube (plastic straw). Last edited by LordoftheRings; 12-27-2018 at 08:06 PM. |

Too bad Oppo is no more; the solidest BR players' company of them all.
But, Sony must have some citrons. It's tough today about quality control of our electronic purchases. Sony is not alone, they all have their own problems, all electronic manufacturers. We pick the one we wish and hope for the best. Nothing is perfect, nothing lasts, some fail and some keep running. SONY needs to get back on the ES program with a substantial and reliable disc drive transport and solid firmware updates from an experienced team of engineers in the software programming department. I wish them the very best luck in 2019 and beyond. Nothing lasts forever, even Sony. |

I'm trying to see if this is a known issue, but haven't discovered anything yet. I've got my eye on the LG UBK90 ![]() |

I asked in the x700 thread but haven't gotten an answer yet, so I thought I'd try here as I'm sure the settings are the same for this option.
Under screen settings, what should I be setting these to? YCbCr/RGB (HDMI) (Auto, 4:2:2, 4:4:4 or RGB) HDMI Deep Color (Auto or Off) I have a 2016 model LG LCD UHD set. It does support deep color, but I'm unsure if I want to leave that feature set to auto or leave it off. Also unsure what to set the YCbCr setting to. |
