The 2019 Sony UBP-X800M2 is the replacement for the out of production 2017 Sony UBP-X800. The only difference in the new player is Dolby Vision HDR.https://www.sony.com/electronics/blu...ers/ubp-x800m2
While I am very glad to see the UBP-X800M2 get Dolby Vision HDR processing power, its to bad HDR10+ is not also offered by Sony. Another issue is instead of designing a entire new and improved Blu-ray player and calling it UBP-X900, instead this new UBP-X800M2 appears to be exactly the same as the UBP-X800 model but with a faster chip that supports Dolby Vision HDR. Everything else remained the same like no rear USB jack, no USB 3.0 technology, no 1Gbps Ethernet connection. Perhaps the list price might be slightly higher for the UBP-X800M2 which is fine sine it offers Dolby Vision HDR. Pioneer and Panasonic with their players that they came out with appear to be doing more then Sony. Sony just made minor changes to the existing 2017 UBP-X800 for the year 2019, which is not a good sign. In the past Sony would always or almost always come out with a new Blu-ray player from the ground up. I hope that in 2020 we are not nearing the end of production life for Sony Blu-ray players because of streaming increasing in demand over physical media. So are we not going to get a replacement for Sony's 2017 flagship UBP-X1000ES that would add Dolby Vision HDR? |

Does the x800 have issues spinning extremely loud with some discs?
I popped Grease in last night on my x700 and the player sounded like it was about to spin apart it was spinning so loudly. First time I heard this since I got the player for Christmas. If I skip ahead a chapter the sounds cuts in half and if I skip another chapter, it's silent. If I go back a chapter, it's just as loud again. Forward again and it's quiet. If I skip to the last couple chapters, the noise kicks right back in again. So how common is this noise issue with spinning some discs? Does the x800 have the same issue? I don't want to have to worry about random discs being unplayable due to noise issues. Why does it only make that loud spinning sound in the first 2 and last 2 chapters? I have to make a decision by this evening if I will be keeping the x700 or returning it. I sit only about 8-10 feet away from the player. I can't ignore it. It sounded like it was going to take off it was so loud. All other discs have been quiet but I can't worry about random discs acting up in this player. |

I have the X800 and it has always been completely silent when I've used it, and trust me, it gets used constantly. It is a solid, well built and heavy machine. I'm not familiar with the X700, but I have used other Sony models which did have some noise while the disc was loading, but this has never been the case with the X800.

Odd.
As I'm discovering today, with the x700 many of my 4k discs spin up faster and louder in the first couple chapters, and the menu, then it seems to spin slower and quieter for the rest of the chapters until the last couple chapters when it picks up speed again and gets a bit louder. Not really noticeable unless you're right in front of the unit, but Grease was particularly bad and it sounded like the player was going to take off. Since the factory reset Grease is much quieter now, so I don't know what to think. |

I know I asked about the x800. Because I was curious if the x800 was as loud as the x700.
Honestly after experimenting with a bunch more discs, the x700 is silent for most of my discs through the majority of the disc, but it gets a bit louder at the beginning and end of some of them as the disc speeds up. For some reason Grease was extremely loud but it seems to have quieted down after a reset and moving it a tiny bit, so maybe it settled in. |

192 Khz but there was an unreported and unespected feature on this player that made me very very happy: when audio was set to PCM while playing SACD's it output 176.4 Khz/24 bit even over its digital coaxial output, something unseen before as digital outputs either coaxial or toslink optical muted.
That feature was great, it made my inexpensive yet great performing Topping D30 D/A Converter sound great, so great that I stopped listenning to stereo SACD's through HDMI using my Pioneer's D/A converters set to Pure Direct, the Topping just sounded better. And I'm saying sounded, past tense, because after the X-800 latest UpDowngrade it only outputs 44.1Khz/16 bit through its digital coaxial output while playing an SACD disc. I went nuts when I discovered that. I'm not updating a playing again unless a new a disc doesn't play, I want my stuff UPGRADED not DOWNGRADED. Anyway, my next UHD BD player won't be a Sony. |
