So seriously it's supposed to be set at 192 khz?

LOL. That shows how little I know about the settings. Doesn't it come set at 48 kHz in the first place from the factory?

While I am very glad to see the UBP-X800M2 get Dolby Vision HDR processing power, its to bad HDR10+ is not also offered by Sony. Another issue is instead of designing a entire new and improved Blu-ray player and calling it UBP-X900, instead this new UBP-X800M2 appears to be exactly the same as the UBP-X800 model but with a faster chip that supports Dolby Vision HDR. Everything else remained the same like no rear USB jack, no USB 3.0 technology, no 1Gbps Ethernet connection. Perhaps the list price might be slightly higher for the UBP-X800M2 which is fine sine it offers Dolby Vision HDR.

Pioneer and Panasonic with their players that they came out with appear to be doing more then Sony. Sony just made minor changes to the existing 2017 UBP-X800 for the year 2019, which is not a good sign. In the past Sony would always or almost always come out with a new Blu-ray player from the ground up. I hope that in 2020 we are not nearing the end of production life for Sony Blu-ray players because of streaming increasing in demand over physical media.

So are we not going to get a replacement for Sony's 2017 flagship UBP-X1000ES that would add Dolby Vision HDR?

So then this product I just say at Best Buy is just a rename of the X800? A rename? That's gonna suck for those who buy it thinking it's a different number, it'll have DV.. https://www.bestbuy.com/site/sony-ub...?skuId=6239463

Default Sony UBP-X800 :: fantastic player

for what it's worth
  • the Sony UBP-X800 is an excellent UHD player
  • it is well-built and performs well, by any standard
  • that the new UHD player builds on this design is significant
  • my only complaint with it was that it did not support Dolby Vision
  • that the 2019 UHD player announced at CES 2019 builds on it's strengths, is fantastic
  • i own two of the UBP-X800's and intend on acquiring two of the 2019 - ASAP
  • just for Dolby Vision; yes
  • and, for it's fantastic support of audio formats
  • it's a well-built quiet player
  • were they to include a back-light remote, would be perfect
  • it should be noted that there certainly will be un-documented improvements (two-years worth)

I know, i get that, i meant some might think the 80 is a new product, not a rename. Technically while the 800M2 (2019) is the "same" as the 800 and 80, it has an upgrade, Dolby Vision, maybe newer parts idk. I know my UBK-90 is no different than the previous 970, it just has additional guts for vibration/noise dampening (i've seen a German video on YT with a teardown where that's one of the few differences, the "motherboard" is the same, looks like Disc drive too) but it has the Dolby Vision out of box. But it would be confusing to see a side model that was a rebrand of the 970 with no improvements. It's a thing that irks me, especially when other tech makers do it alot (Looking at Nvidia and AMD).

I actually like the look of the Sony 800, and from what i've seen and heard it looks like a nice cross between more budget/mid(affordable) tier players like the Magnavox's, or the Firrips (Philips), through to the LG's and Samsungs price wise, with more build features from the high end players, you're OPPO's, and Panny UB9000 and Pioneer LX500/800's.

Yes. 192kHz. Only potential issue is if you're connected directly to your TV for audio.

What are those improvements? I've only seen my X-800 downgraded when playing SACD's via digital coaxial. It output 176.4/24 before the latest firmware "upgrade", now it outputs red book 44.1/16. That's downgrading in my book.

I get occasional freezes but nothing major. I was having a lot of issues until I replaced a keystone wall jack where my HDMI output from my AVR goes into the wall and couples to the in wall cable which goes to the TV.

I thought it was the Sony originally, but now performance seems to be back to above adequate. Sometimes switching between YouTube>Netflix or UHD>YouTube, you get the idea, causes a freeze. It's hooked into my power conditioner in the bank that isn't "ALWAYS ON" so I just power cycle as once it's frozen neither the power button on the remote nor the front panel do any good.

Sometimes the triple layer discs have problems when switching from the 2nd to the 3rd layer.
Are the 4K discs you've been having issues with 100GB?

Exactly .. those are the ones which I am having issues with?

Is there any solution for controlling this?

I've found a hard reboot via some good old power deprivation to do the trick. It takes a while before I have any issues with the BD-100s after that.

I realize it's annoying having to get up in the middle of a movie, but I find the experience of yanking the cord outta the socket very gratifying. Something very cathartic about the action.

All the time over two different X800s. Lots of others with this issue on Sony players if you google. My LG player plays everything without missing a step.

I have mine connected to my projector (1080, not 4k) through my Sony STR-DN1080. Ive had this setup for a while now without much issues. Occasionally i have a streaming video crash, only to be fixed by re-booting, but it has been pretty good on that issue for a while now. When i go onto the Netflix app however its a different story.

For the last several weeks as i scroll through the titles the projector keeps 'searching' for a connection, making the screen go black for several seconds, only to go back onto the main netflix screen every time. This does not happen with any of the other apps, only netflix.

Has this loss of connection happened to anyone else? I presume it might be an issue for those connected to TV's too if it is indeed a bug.
I have not changed any settings on the player or projector before this started to happen.

I was watching The Shining on blu ray last night, and my player completely froze up. I had to unplug it to get it up and running again. I went back to the scene where the lock up happened, and it played fine throughout the rest of the film.

These things use to happen on some X-800's, it did happen to mine since it died on last March, then I got a new X-800 from Sony and has been flawless since then, not a single freezing even with the 3 layer/100 Gb from Westworld UHD BD's season 1 & 2.
I think the main problem here is quality control.

It's the result of a Netflix app update from around a year ago. The only way to stop it is to disable the 24p output for Network in the player settings.

Stops it completely.
