Yes, when you play a regular Blu-ray, it switches back to Custom. I haven't tried an SDR 4K movie yet. Don't think I even own any. My 4K movies are all HDR.

Having issues with Netflix streaming 4K content on here. I updated firmware and I know its not internet speed because Amazon was playing 4K content no problem.

On the Netflix app theres no Ultra HD 4k section like there is on the TV app and any title that I stream that's usually viewable in 4K says its only playing 1080. Not sure what the problem is, it's disappointing but I guess not bad enough to take it back.

That's very odd. The 4K UltraHD section is there on mine and it also tells you which shows are in HDR.

Have you checked your online account to make sure it shows the 4 screens + UHD still, and set your streaming bandwidth to High?

That's probably the problem. Netflix accounts have to be bumped to the 4k pricing tier in order to receive 4k programming.

I just streamed 7 episodes of Iron Fist in 4k HDR on my netflix app from the player last night without any issues. Maybe you need to set the player for HDR to automatic, that is what I have it set to.

Have the 4K ability on my Netflix, bandwidth set to High but it's still only maxing out at 5mbps/1080 for some reason.

It works perfectly through the Netflix app on my KS8000 but I don't know why it's not doing it through the X800.

Looks like i'm not alone either:http://community.sony.com/t5/Blu-Ray...ix/td-p/619764

I think after lots of testing I need to boost the color on this a little. Not nearly like the Samsung, and no other boosting, but most films (not all) do look a little less colorful than their BD counterparts. Boosting color 4 notches seems to make all the difference in the world.

I like having everything Sony but I've decided to stick with my Panansonic UB900 for the time being. This might sound stupid to some but I really don't like the X800 not having a display on the player. Might go for the X1000ES when it's available and if it's not too expensive.

Same thing here. My gear it's all Sony, TV, Sound Bar. I would rather have a Sony player as well. I bought this player last week at Best Buy and I just could not live with a player with no front display. It really bothered me. I returned it and kept my Panny UB9000.

Default What does Deep Color really do?

'I pretty much left everything on Auto except for Deep Color which I turned off because I heard that never gets used.'

Hi, maybe I'm wrong but doesn't swithing off Deep Color send a 8bit signal to the TV? I have a 10bit panel on mine and really want to feed it the 10bit color recorded on all the uhd discs. UHD, HDR and 10bit color give you the full experience.

Also, the manual says 12/10bit for Auto. What does it really mean? My tv is a Samsung JS8500 and it has probelms with the 12bit signal from uhd blu-rays (and not regular blu-rays). Only the oppo has the full 8/10/12bit setting. I'm still looking for the best player for my TV. I'd like to get this sony but I'm afraid I'll have to buy the oppo.

Default Sony UBP-X800 4K UHD Blu-ray player

Here's a question: If I have a non 3D TV, can I watch something in 2D using this player off the 3D version?

For anyone who's curious on how the free 4K Blu-Ray offer works, I found it to be quite simple. The instructions were relatively straight-forward, I thought, with the only moment of confusion coming from which number on the box was the product serial number (hint: it should start with S, mine did). After that, there was a couple of day waiting period for me the get the offer code, but when I did, I picked my movies out (Sausage Party & Amazing Spider-Man 2...because I already had the other movies I would've been interested in), and they arrived about 4 days later in the mail.

Not too bad, all things considered.

There are conflicting reports. Many say however that forcing "deep color" will send out 10bit for blu-rays and 12-bit for UHDs, in other words always a step too high. However I know from experience auto doesn't always detect things properly, I thought I had a borked TV a few years ago until I changed an auto setting to off. So you probably want to experiment, but for most systems I would guess auto does the job just fine.

My understanding is that 'auto' has worked quite well for people.

I said auto would work for most people, but strange things do happen. Auto has failed me before.

P.S. I got a shipping notice for my free UHDs today at 2pm and then got them in the mail at 4pm. Weird. For slipcover obsessives, Underworld came with one but The Shallows and the two Ghostbusters movies did not.

Always better off watching the 2D Blu-ray then from what I understand.
