The difference in price between the Sony UBP-X800 and UBP-X1000ES is $400. The UBP-X800 is a bargain for $299 and it offers almost the same features as the UBP-X1000ES.

I love this player, but the apps are really inconsistent. One of the reason I got this is because of the 2nd HDMI audio. My AVR doesn't support HDR so I have to decide between HDR and DD+ when streaming. So I was hoping this would allow me both, but this is just dumb:
Netflix - has HDR but can't get DD+ from same titles I can on Roku. DD only. Amazon - Can get DD+ but no HDR from same titles on my TV apps Vudu - doesn't seem to support 4k at all? |

The apps aren't done by Sony, so them being inconsistent isn't their fault, it's the builder of the app which is the company itself like Vudu, Amazon & Netflix. They have to update their apps then it will be consistent. It's not Sony's Fault. |

So far loving the Sony. A big difference between this and the Samsung. Not that the Samsung was bad or anything, but it was the first 4K BD player. In that year I've been able to watch a lot of 4K movies because of that. Just wish it would add Plex at some point.

Had some issues while watching X-Men First Class on Blu-ray last night. Five times or so the image got really pixelated for a second or two. I'm thinking it's a compatibility issue between the player and the disc, because after doing a quick search online, I noticed a lot of people had playback issues when this disc first came out. I'll keep you posted if I see it happen with other titles, though.

I'm still thinking about getting the Sony X1000 (which has a display) though, I can always use the Panasonic UB900 as a back up player or maybe for when I upgrade the bedroom's HT setup to UHD. ![]() |

the dual HDMI outs on this thing. does it allow audio to be sent via one and video through the other? The reason being I want this for a secondary system which uses an Onkyo 605 (which I don't believe will pass through 4K video, so I'd need one cable to go to it for the audio, and the other one to do direct video into the Samsung 4K UHD display I have in there)

I was sharing my random disc pixilation issue while watching X-Men: First Class on Blu-ray at AVSForums, and someone else had chimed in and said they had the random pixilation issue as well (to be clear, the whole screen would get pixelated for a second or two… if I rewound and played the same part back, it might happen again, it might not… but usually not). They experienced this issue with a couple of titles that happened to ALSO be authored by FOX. What a co-inky-dink, doncha think? Fox are notorious for featuring some of the most rigid disc encryption on the market, so it makes sense a brand new player may have some issues.
So, I called Sony support this morning and said I may have discovered an error with the player, perhaps specifically in regards to Fox titles. The person on the phone was trying to see if I had an actual hardware issue, or if it was something else. Told him I watched other UHD’s and Blu-ray discs without issue, but it was specifically X-Men: First Class, and for the other person I was talking with at AVS, a couple of other Fox titles. He said Sony are aware that there’s been some issue with the issue I described, or in other cases some minor hitching or freezing occurring, and that it’s due to the kind of disc encryption certain studios have implemented on their discs. He said this player is looking at likely having firmware next month and perhaps the month after as well, but he isn’t really sure if this issue will be fixed during those updates since they’re still collecting data from consumers about this. It's good that they know about the problem already and seem to understand what’s causing the issue. That makes me feel a bit better because it does seem like something they can likely fix with firmware in due time. My old Sony Blu-ray player had no issues playing anything so that kind of sucks that this player has a problem, but on the other hand, Sony supported the hell out of that thing with firmwares to ensure compatibility was solid across the board. I see no reason why this player would be any different. The rep did let me know that this player is still super new so they haven’t had a chance to work out the kinks just yet, and I get that. Here’s hoping it’s fixed sooner rather than later. |

Yeah I would assume if there's an issue with Fox encryption that would be top on their to-do list for firmware updates. Good think you notified them, the more complaints the faster the work gets done. Maybe I'll try out First Class later to see if I have the problem.

The 900's had plenty of quirks in the (almost) year it's been out, as the 4K24 upscaling was fubar on the launch firmware, it had Atmos/TrueHD dropouts after that and until recently had a lip sync issue with Universal/Paramount discs.
BUT what the 900 hasn't had is problems with disc trays or shutdowns or player freeze-ups or whatever, it's been a real trooper in that respect. And sometimes it's the little things that annoy people the most, especially when forking out so much moolah for a player that's supposed to be the best of the best of the best, sir! |

I still can't get the HDR to work properly on this. Can't figure out if it's the player or the TV but nothing I do to try to adjust it makes any difference. With HDR turned on the picture is dull and washed out but with it turned off, the picture is fantastic. I can't be the only one experiencing this.
