Had my very first lock up with this unit after2 months of solid no problem use.
Upgraded the apps yesterday and popped in Fox's Assassin's Creed 4K disc and at 45:xx mark it just froze. Nothing I did on the unit or remote would unfreeze it. I had to yank the power cord. After that it played fine. Anyone else have that issue?

Also I noticed that you guys were right on BD playback to change to Auto 2 for 4K upscaling. I had mine on Auto 1. I wish they told you this on the onscreen menus.

I had one freeze-up but I was quickly switching discs and inputs at the time testing stuff.

I don't think it's been confirmed that this player supports VP9 Profile 2.
I was at a local Best Buy and a rep from Sony was in the store. I asked him about the X800 and if it will have a YouTube app that can play 4K HDR content. He assured me that it will. However I think if I asked him if the X800 could toast bread he would also have assured me that it could.

If the X800 has a chip that is powerful enough to implement DV it probably can also do YouTube 4K HDR.

I just bought this Sony 2017 4K player. I am coming to this from the Samsung 8500 2016 model. I really like the Sony player so far! The remote is way better than the Samsung remote was for me, by far.

I do like the picture and sound quality better on the Sony than I did on the Samsung. I, like others, just hope that Sony adds the YouTube app soon. As far as a player for Blurays, 4K discs, and DVDs, so far so good!

I thought about getting the Xbox One S model and just using that for everything, but I'm glad I didn't. From what I read, it's a pretty average player for movies and that's the main reason I am looking for a player. So, I'm glad I sprang for the Sony instead.

Ok guys, so I turned everything to "auto" on the player and I tweaked my 900e settings using Rtings settings also added a couple of ticks in brightness and color. All I can say is "Wow" what a difference that made. Just watched John Wick and was floored how good it looked. This player is a winner.

Has nothing to do with how powerful it is. It just needs the SoC to have a VP9 Profile 2 decoder.

Just got this and the picture quality is simply amazing, it does not surprise me either because it's Sony. Don't care for the home menu, not flashy enough imo just kind of meh. Though it's picture and sound quality make up for it.

Best 4k players on the market imo:
1. Oppo 203
2. Panasonic UB900
3. Sony x800 (x1000es when it's released)
4. Samsung K8500
5. Samsung UBD-M9500

Make sure to use Auto 2 for BD playback to upscale to 4K.

Played around with VUDU app recently and disappointed it does not playback in UHD.

My LG UP970 arrived with a DOA disc loader so I exchanged it for this even though it doesn't have DV. It's fine with me because I will upgrade to a high end player in the future so I'll live with this for now. Build quality looks miles better than the LG and actually looks like a $300 piece of equipment.

Why post it here and not in the 1000es thread?

Lots Sony peoples on this thread. Some may have "Talked" to the Right Source in this regards. CES. Dutch German Trade shows, UK, etc

Took a quick peek at that x1000 thread earlier but not seen much DV "Talk".

I think the x1000 thread will have more peoples there when the unit hits the stores
