Have to manually select 4:4:4 on this with my new KS8000 as well, on "auto" it uses 4:2:2.

Got a positive response on the Fox disc macroblocking issue on the Sony forums today:

"Hello everyone,

I just completed a meeting with Software Design and SQA members tonight and all testing for playback improvement for this issue has been positive. The planned firmware release for tomorrow will support 20th Century Fox macroblock issue fix.

Thank you,

Chris"

If it indeed resolves the issue, that's great turnaround time.

Interesting. I'll have to see if it does that on my KS8000 too.

Anyone have any idea what the new update did? Other than changing to ugly gray/green/yellow startup screen to a nice black, I don't notice anything different. No new apps either. :-(

Address fox blu ray microblocking issues.

LOL, I was starting to get pissed at Sony for not sending me my 2 free movie code. Good thing haven't called them or else I would look like a fool because was sent on to me on the 24th a day after I register it but for some reason it was lumped to promotions area in my email.

Ended up with Passenger and Underworld Blood Wars (pretty meh and will likely sell it on fleabay once get them)

Hey guys,

Trying to decide between the Samsung x8500 and this player. I am ready to jump into 4K HDR but I still watch and own a lot of 3D discs. I wanted the sony but I've been unable to find it and the Samsung is always there at best buy.

I am currently using the Samsung 65 inch JU7500.

I don't have an Atmos/Dts-X reciever yet but would like this player to work for that set up in the future.

Anyone have any suggestions? Is there a big benefit to waiting to find this Sony player or should I just go with the Samsung. I also looked at the Xbox one S, but I need 2 hdmi outputs for my set up.

Oh, no question about it, definitely go with the Sony X800! It's WAY better than the Samsung!! I had the Samsung first and then switched to the Sony and am so glad I did. The Sony even gives you the option of turning the HDR setting off or on whereas the Samsung doesn't which alone makes it much superior to me.

Everything I've read says this is the best 4k player in the price range.

Yay! My X800 just updated again, now it has Crackle and Youtube 4K HDR. NICE! Unlike the LG970, the X800 plays nice with all the 4K HDR on Youtube.

Now that they've fixed the macroblocking issue on Fox titles, it most certainly is.

And my experience with Sony Blu-ray players has always been outstanding. I only ever had to buy one, and they kept disc compatibility a priority on that thing over the years. I never had issues with disc playback. The player actually even had better compatibility than even my Oppo BDP-83, and that's saying something. So, I expect this player will probably be good for some time to come. $300 is pretty much one of the cheaper serious player prices out there, and the Sony is worth it for that much.

I don't want to speak ill of the Samsung player anymore since my TV was not good enough to judge at that time, but the Sony really is an amazing player. Feels solid, works super fast, zero player noise unless you skip through a ton of chapters, no issues so far.

If you want SDR conversion though I found the black crush impossible to remedy or deal with.

I've only had the Sony for a few days and it's already essential gear.

Watched The Shallows on regular BD, color and detail were stunning for BD.

Watched Angry Birds 3D, 3D is already very strong. No TV adjustments needed.

Watched some Planet Earth II in 4K, Holy Demo Material Batman!

This player seems to be the perfect companion for my 3D OLED, very happy indeed.

When word gets out, I suspect this player will sell very well. Sony's on a roll.

The new update seems to have fixed the problem I was having with the HDR looking dull and washed out. Now everything looks fantastic! Love the YouTube 4K content too!! Very very happy with this machine!

I updated yesterday but didn't know it included youtube HDR support.

Will check that out asap.

I tried watching HDR clips from youtube on the Z9D last week but that didn't work, guess the TV hasn't been updated yet?

Edit: videos still don't show up in HDR? I'm on firmware M36.R.0173, European model.

WOW, not only a firmware update but quite a nice Services update too, which added YouTube, Spotify, SiriusXM, Crackle, FoxNews and several others.

Hoping YouTube works better here as my Sammy KS8000's version has a bug that makes me re-authenticate every day. Gives me a 4K alternative till Samsung/Google get their app fixed.

Finally starting to see the streaming side of this thing.

Sony might be on a Roll. For now. But when DV or the announced HDR10+ comes out... Where will Sony roll?
And who will be happy rolling along? Understand Im an Sony owner of 6 or 7 of their players. Of which 3 are Sony 7200's.

For the many of us that have seen many DV movies on our TV's... it would be extremely hard for us to accept that considerably lower PQ.

Please SONY. Get DV onto some of your new Players. Charge us more $ if necessary

We're a long way yet from seeing if DV even takes off on UHD and becomes a thing, so I don't think they need to decide yet. In fact, I am sure that situation is the exact thing they're going to wait and look at before deciding.
