What about playing dvd ISO from an external?

Is that all we are going off of between the 2 differences? In that the 1000 has a 5 year warranty and a display? Has the SoC been verified?
For the x800:
Yes to WWE, netflix, amazon, vudu. Youtube. No to PSVue
No to HDCD
No to ISO

It depends...on how much support Sony will give it...through firmware updates and dealer's install services. The 1000ES comes with this special characteristic.
And as another member has well observed previously, a longer warranty* to go along. It's for the elevated Sony customers if you like, for people who are hi-end loyal Sony customers if you would. ...Elevated Standard. You pay the difference for that special security, kind of. It adds more value of peace, sort of.

* Five years, parts and labour.

It's not the last 4K player that they'll make, obviously, and for myself, even though I am a loyal Sony supporter, I always want the latest version of any of their electronics. Every year they come out with a better, more improved version of whatever it may be, so for me, it wouldn't be worth it to pay an extra $400 for a 5 year warranty because I know I wouldn't have it for 5 years.

The Sony 800 doesn't power off automatically after a certain time of inactivity?

Just to clarify my problem has been resolved. My TV had auto shut off "on" so it turns the TV off after 15 minutes of inactivity and the disc player shuts off to. This has nothing to do with the x800 or the x1000es disc players so it is not a defect or issue. If you own a Sony 4k TV and don't want this to happen turn auto shut off to "off" in the power settings. Thanks to all the posters who helped me try to resolve this issue.

First thing I do with a new Sony player: turn off BD Audio mix.

First thing I do with a new Sony TV: turn off the Eco features.

Haha, I know what you mean! I do the same thing.

And after that it's turning off DRC on the player and then on the TV Motionflow and Live Color and others to off and switch to cinema mode.

Thanks. I guess I overlooked that during setup.

Sorry for giving Pieter V the wrong info.

No problem. You just missed the option, that's all. Glad 24p is supported then.

Yes it was an Eco power feature on my Sony set to shut the TV off if there is 15 minutes of inactivity. I have one upstairs and one downstairs so they both were doing the same thing so I thought it was definitely the disc players turns out it wasn't. So the good news for those worried about nothing recently is the x800 and x1000es don't shut off. it's a huge relief it was just my TVs doing this as I think these are great disc players.

I just bought the player today, but all is not well yet in 4K-town . I've read the manual, but no help there for my 2 problems.

I hope somebody can help, who also has a LG OLED65E6V tv, just like me.

-I have updated the software on the Sony to the lastest version.
-I have connected the HDMI OUT 1 on the Sony to the HDMI3 on the LG OLED for the video with a Premium High Speed cable.
-I have connected the HDMI OUT 2 on the Sony to the HDMI3 to my receiver for the audio. The audio works fine.

When I turn the Sony on, the following happens:
-If I had set 'HDMI Ultra HD Deep Colour' on at the HDMI3 port of the LG OLED, I have a black screen instead of the menu screen from the Sony.
-If I had set 'HDMI Ultra HD Deep Colour' off at the HDMI3 port of the LG OLED, I get the menu screen from the Sony. If I then load a UHD blu-ray, the LG OLED detects HDR and gives a warning on the LG OLED that the HDMI Ultra HD Deep Colour settings should be set and the tv will restart, turns the tv off and on again with 'HDMI Ultra HD Deep Colour' now on. And presto, I get a beautiful, stunning picture with HDR (as detected by the LG OLED).
But if I stop the movie, I get a black screen again instead of seeing the menu of the Sony. If I then set 'HDMI Ultra HD Deep Colour' off on the LG OLED and restart the tv, I see the menu again.

I've already played around with all the settings on the Sony, but can't get it to work right. I should be able to turn on 'HDMI Ultra HD Deep Colour' on the LG OLED as a standard setting, start the Sony and see the menu.

Btw, regular blu-ray's work fine, no problems there.

I have the following settings on the Sony:
-HDR Output: Auto
-Display Type: TV
-Output Video Resolution: Original Resolution
-24p Output: Ultra HD Blu-ray/BR-ROM - Auto, DVD-ROM - Off, Data Content -Auto, Network Content - Off
-4K Upscale Setting: Auto1
-YCbCr/RGB (HDMI): Auto
-HDMI Deep Color Output: Off
-IP Content NR: Off
-3D Output Setting: Auto
-TV screen size: 65 inch
-TV Type: 16:9
-Screen Format: Normal
-DVD Aspect Ratio: Letter Box
-Cinema Conversion Mode: Auto
-Pause Mode: Auto

And my second problem, in addition to this: if I load the Billy Lynn disc, the tv doesn't switch to HDR at all . If there something else I should change to get this right?

Thanks in advance for any answers!

Edit
:
I'll juist edit my post with the solution, in case anybody else gets the same problem.
Setting the HDMI Deep Color output on the player to auto didn't fix it, but my second problem (couldn't play Billy Lynn, which is 60fps) made my look at my HDMI cable again. And sure enough, even when it have 'Premium High Speed', '4K' and what not on the package, the fine print says 'supports data transfer of up to 10 Gigabits/sec'......and that isn't enough, as I already knew, it must be 18.
Ordered a new HDMI cable and presto, it works!

Don't know if it will solve those problems but seems confirmed Deep Color has to be on auto. With it off you're getting 8bit or whatever.

They have the two Despicable Me titles coming out. I'm sure there will be more. Dolby Vision mastering software was only made available a few months ago, so most initial titles won't probably show up until late Summer or the holiday season. There is turn around time and home video releases are planned months prior to release. Many in the pipeline were already mastered before DV was ready to go via Dolby and Sony's disc software.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but will titles release in DV also have HDR10? I though I saw a while back some upcoming titles by Universal that feature both DV and HDR10?

Yes. The Blu-ray Disc association requires any UHD BD that has DV to also include HDR10. Since HDR10 is the standard. While DV is optional.
