If Sony's going to start putting out DV discs soon, I take that as a positive sign for the X800.

I doubt they would put out a new player and then immediately make it obsolete and kill all future sales.

I'm still hopeful the X800 can run DV in software on the player CPU.

Anyone else have quick little stutters with normal BDs since the last update? Haven't noticed it with UHDs yet but I watched The Nice Guys last night Beverly Hills Cop 2 today and had 3-4 quick stutters on both.

I watched Deadly Hallows 1&2 3D and everything was smooth....

Last update was a double (one for player, one for apps), no issues since then for me.

For those who are interested, this player puts out strong 3D. I'm lovin' it.

I'm still confused as to whether the youtube app on the X800 can play HDR clips or not? I thought I read on AVS it could?

It could. Some Youtube videos just state HDR on title but in reality they are not. I've ran into a few videos and tested with varios devices with youtube HDR.

Thank you.

I tried a couple of clips with HDR in the title but they never actually played in HDR.

How do you know what HDR is supposed to look like?

Should be pretty obvious I think and besides, the TV does not go into HDR mode when playing those clips.

Search for "The HDR Channel" on YouTube. Those are real HDR videos, and you should see the HDR tag next to the 4K tag when you play them.

I'm not so sure about it being "pretty obvious" as I've never actually seen an example of what it's supposed to look like. In my experience, SDR looks pretty darn good. However, if your TV doesn't go into HDR mode like you said, then that's a pretty good indication.

Funny you should say that cause the videos I tried were from that channel and none of them played in HDR.

Now I'm really starting to doubt if I'm on the latest firmware, will check again later. I have a European model btw.

Do you have subsampling or whatever your set calls it enabled for that input?

Yeah SDR still looks very good ofcourse but once you have watched HDR content for some time, you'll notice the difference.

It can/does. I just tested it a few minutes ago. As mentioned, subscribe to the 4K HDR channel and most(all?) videos in there should play in HDR. On my Samsung KS8000, I see the HDR notification on my screen.

This app is nice since my Samsung TV's YouTube app doesn't seem to do HDR(nevermind that it forces me to re-authenticate every day or so).

As a side note, I saw another "Services Update" message again. I updated but didn't notice any new apps. I'm guessing it updaed some of the existing ones. Is there a way to tell what it updated?

That's very strange. Your TV, along with all other 2016 Samsung models, support YouTube HDR. What firmware are you on?

For all you x800 adopters, I returned the supposedly better model the x1000es. I decided there was not much of a performance difference between the two disc players. So if you are on the fence for the x1000es, save your money this is very similar to it almost exactly like it minus the front display.
