They have the nerve to charge an extra $400 for it! I'm a big Sony supporter but that's just ridiculous. $400 for a front display and a five year warranty??

Sony have lots of nerve, on many Sony products.

This app is nice since my Samsung TV's YouTube app doesn't seem to do HDR(nevermind that it forces me to re-authenticate every day or so).
My KS8000 definitely plays Youtube HDR properly. I don't use the player's apps because using the TV ones is easier.

It came down to this and it was a very tough decision for me to return it (great player). It just wasn't any better than the x800 and yes $400 extra for those things is absolutely ridiculous. I was surprised by how similar the two players are in performance (video and audio) I thought for an ES model it would have blown it away. I basically came to my senses this wasn't worth it one bit. The x800, Oppo 203, DMP-UB900 all worth it, not the x1000es. So since the performance of the x1000es is so similar or identical to the x800, made no sense to hold onto it.

Still on 1168.2. I haven't updated to 1169 yet.

I may have to look again but the TV app on the KS8000 doesn't trigger the actual HDR message like the Sony player does. However, I'll look at the settings when viewing a supposed HDR video and see if the HDR settings kick in.

Oh, then you should definitely have YouTube HDR on that firmware.

If by "doesn't trigger the actual HDR message" you mean the pop up notification along the top of the TV, then yeah, it won't do that when you're playing videos through your TV's YouTube app. Nevertheless, it is still playing videos in HDR.

You can see because it displays both the 4K and HDR badges at the top next to the number of views:

Yep. Checked it out last night. Definitely getting HDR on the Samsung Youtube app, just no notifications. Still though, it's nice to have the Sony alternative, due to the Samsung Youtube app making me re-authenticate all the time.

Don't know what the latest firmware has done but I seem to now have lip sync issues. Been on the phone with their support all afternoon. No help.

Try resetting the player. I haven't had any lip sync issues since the update. Is it discs, or streaming or both?

I already mentioned I had some brief skips after the update with normal BDs. That might lead to sync issues depending on equipment. They messed with BD playback to fix the Fox copy protection issue, I think it caused a new problem.

Im using the player with the 65" Samsung KS8000. Any help would be appreciated.

That’s twice now, unless you’ve posted the same link on a 3rd player thread. C’mon man, show a little loyalty to the forum you’re using for your 15 min. of fame.

Have you started a thread on the Sony Community forums, or have contacted their support directly? If not, I highly advise it. If it's an issue, they should be notified.

1) No mention of Dolby Vision
2) The video doesn't play in my country (when you click 'Read more')

It's very not important; there are various sources on the Internet to get the information from. If you google you'll see that before blu-ray.com and avsforum.com the info was avail from other sources. No big deal @ all.

The real HDR titles will show VP9.2 in the stats for Nerds section when playing.

Thanks, will look for that next time.

I tried some more videos yesterday and I noticed the colors were muted and the picture looked washed out, which to me seems the videos themselves are actually HDR except my display is not showing them correctly.
