Hi guys, just set up my new Sony UBP-X800 to my Samsung UN65JU7500. Everything seems to be working well, I turned on HDMI UHD colour for the input and I can cofirm HDR is working because it automatically maxes out my contrast and backlight when i play a disc. I have 4k for sure as the info on the tv confirms. Unfortunately I am getting this weird banding in the skylines. I am not sure why, it doesn't show up on normal blu rays, and if I change the colour output from 4:4:4 to 4:2:2 it is much less noticeable but it is still present. And i confirmed that the tv is capable of 4:4:4. Does anyone have any ideas???

Some TVs are capable of accepting 4:4:4 on paper but in reality their processing just isn't good enough so it chokes on the signal which is why you're seeing that weird banding in large swathes of colour e.g. skies. Have you tried toggling the Deep Colour on and off on the player, see if that helps any?

I googled your TV and it does not have wide color, so you probably need to use the 8bit signal. I suggest using SDR conversion in general, actually. |

Hello everyone,
Sorry if this issue has already been addressed, but I didn't want to read through several pages of posts. Am curious about this new Sony player, but I have a non-HDR TV which IS 4K (2160p) capable. Has anyone tried playing UHD discs on their non HDR capable screens yet? Just want to know if the supposed "HDR to SDR" conversion still makes a noticeable PQ improvement when viewing a UHD disc in SDR as opposed to upscaling a standard 1080p blu ray. Thanks a bunch for any feedback from non-HDR TV owners! ![]() Last edited by mlock; 05-14-2017 at 06:50 AM. |

Anyway... My experience was that without wide color and the proper nits there was no way to get a consistently pleasing and accurate looking image across all discs. You can use color boosting and contrast boosting to make one disc look good, but then another disc will look worse. Also you're never seeing an accurate image... how it was "meant to be seen"... which bothered me a lot, but opinions differ on that. There are people here who turned up color and turned on dynamic contrast and then stopped worrying about it, and maybe you can be one of them. That was not my experience. The Sony has a nice SDR mode that emulates the look of HDR pretty well and gives you the 4k resolution your set can display. It did have some black crush and color boosting on my set, but I can say now having an HDR Premium television to compare with that the SDR conversion was closer overall to seeing the discs as mastered than the HDR presentation was. Again though, it was that lack of accuracy that made it unacceptable to me. However let me end by saying all that matters is that YOU like the image you're seeing. If some color and contrast tweaks make it look good to you then enjoy! Same with SDR conversion, if it looks good to you then enjoy! I am only offering advice from my own perspective, which is one more built around seeing things as intended than most others'. |

Just spent some time with the chroma and luma patterns on spears and munsil and combo's of deep color off vs auto, ycbcr 444 vs 422 vs auto, and the results were all the same. I have HDMI 1 to my OLED and HDMI 2 to my preamp for audio, and have resolution forced to 4K (instead of Auto). That is about the only thing I am not using Auto on, and I reckon Ill just leave it that way.
I am using 24p for net and discs, and have IP NR turned off. YMMV, but all of those outputs look good on my OLED. I could see forcing 422 of 444 if you have banding or vice versa, and playing with the DC setting. |

For the record, here's a link to my set's specifications: http://www.displayspecifications.com/en/model/1432200 If I'm understanding you correctly, it means I'll have to judge it for myself and play with the settings assuming I was to take the leap and buy it. As you said, what looks good to one person, may not be acceptable to another, which is fair enough. My set isn't even 3 years old, but it may as well be 10 years old with all the innovations lately. Such is life. Last edited by mlock; 05-15-2017 at 02:34 AM. |

I just set this thing up and realized it did not come with a remote... or is missing the remote, what do I do. This is brand new. Really don't want to send this bulky packaging back sent I ordered it through focus camera online.

That's odd. It definitely comes with a remote! Check each pocket of the cardboard packaging, it's got to be there somewhere.

It's usually on top, they should check the box and see if they can find it. If it's not there than it's a goof by Sony during production or was previously purchased and returned but sold as brand new. Check the box really good, hope you find it definitely comes with a remote. If you can't find it contact the seller they should send you a remote on them no charge and if they don't return it. Whatever you do don't pay for a remote, you deserve that remote for the money you paid for the unit. It's on the seller. Any Sony Blu-ray player remote should work with it though.

Ok, I contacted Sony and they are going to send me a remote. Also, I am trying to get this player hooked up with my receiver. I contact Sony and they said it is possibly the Denon. I contacted Accessories4Less and they were no "bs" and straight forward. Helped me out a lot. They said there is possibly a settings on the player itself which I have to wait for my remote for to fix or set up. Anyone know if there is any settings or am I screwed?

IMO, the Sony's streaming PQ looks better than the internal apps, both of course scaling to 4k, and the Sony is outputting everything in 24hz as they should be, not 60hz. The LG apps are 60hz. I forced my Sony to 4K in the menu, I want it doing everything.
