Thanks for the info! Shame Sony didn't carry the offer like in the US, but at least I hear the player itself is pretty great, so I'm looking forward to seeing it in action!

X800 is a nice player. Looks nice, has some decent build quality, excellent price, and a good streamer as well.

When is the x800 Firmware update for Dolby Vision coming?
To drive DV in SONY Z9D, A1e OLED, 940e, etc.

Anyone knows x800 settings to let VUDU App process Movies in DV, Atmos. Or Wide Color Gamut without DV?

IF Sony is updating this player and their ES model to DV, then the firmware release should be right around the time they debut their first DV encoded disc this summer.

I would not put it on when the disc comes out, more when they roll out DV to their displays. May or may not be same time as disc. Sony Hollywood and Sony Electronics are two different divisions.

I decided to make a leap of faith so to speak and bought the player yesterday. Unfortunately, after playing with all the settings, I didn't see a significant enough difference in picture quality compared with my current 4K upscaling blu ray player (which is also a Sony). It's going back to the store. A message kept popping up that I should connect the player to a UHD tv with HDR to get the best picture possible. It felt like a slap in the face every time. Hard not to take it somewhat personally.

At least I satisfied my curiosity and I can still get a refund.

Ok, I'll ask: which tv do you have?
And are you sure that you got the right HDMI cables (that was my problem in the beginning)?

Can anyone confirm if Resident Evil: Final Chapter is an available title for the two free 4k titles promo? They messed up my order, and I'm requesting a replacement, but can no longer access the promo page to check if it's an eligible title.

Yeah, we're going to need some more context here. What type of TV do you have? Is it capable of 4K and HDR? Or just 4K? What types of discs did you try playing? 4K/UHD discs? Or just standard Blu-ray discs?

So many unanswered questions.

Someone said on the previous page that Resident Evil is an available title.

Well I didn't notice the stutters for a while but I have seen them again lately. Emailed Sony about it. Tested my other BD player and saw no issues there.

I was still a little upset and frustrated when I posted my last comment. Apologies for not going into details. First off, yes, I am using fast, high quality Monster "ULTRA HD-BLACK PLATINUM" HDMI cables.

Next, here's a link to my tv's specs:

http://www.displayspecifications.com/en/model/1432200

Yes, my set is 4K, but NOT HDR capable which I can't help but think was at least partially responsible for my issues. Long story short, I tried every setting I could think of so the player would output a 2160p signal via the HDMI to my capable set while watching the UHD disc, but no matter what I tried, the display would always show 1080p only. I realize my tv may have still been upscaling the signal on its own, but wanted the player to perform that function. Oddly enough, with the same settings, when I put in a blu ray, it would show 4K/24p being output. I also tried connecting the HDMI Video output directly to my tv using the "HDMI 3", (bypassing my Yamaha RX-A1030 receiver altogether) which the user manual specifies is ideal for 4K signals, but still no luck! For the record, with every configuration I tried, I was still able to get a lossless audio signal from my receiver everytime.

Perhaps if I didn't already own a 4K upscaling player (a region free Sony BDP-S6500) I would've considered keeping it.

The test movie being used was UNFORGIVEN which I ended up keeping because I can still enjoy the remastered blu ray.

The player has already been returned, and I will simply hold off for now until I can afford a newer tv.

I guess I'm just more than a little pissed off that my set is barely 3 years old, but because of the whole HDR thing, it already seems hopelessly out of date. But that's my problem.

You could have tried turning off HDR in the player.

I bought this player yesterday at my local bestbuy. My TV is a Samsung KU6300. I watched The Magnificent Seven and The Secret Life of Pets both on 4k uhd blu ray with no issues. Both movies looked and sounded great. I didn't see any black crush and didn't have any play back issues. I'll just be using the player as a disc spinner no streaming.

Yeah, I can see why you'd be frustrated. There very likely is a setting in the Sony player that would have solved your issues, but I'll admit that some of the settings and descriptions are very confusing. Doesn't sound like it's an issue with your HDMI cables. Hope you can figure it out with your next 4K player.

Black crush is in SDR conversion, not HDR mode. I used to have your TV and I'd suggest boosting color or using SDR mode.

I did try turning it off. I also tried setting it to AUTO, but neither made any difference. Every configuration I tried always showed HDR- SDR when I hit the Display button
