DV wasn't even in my thoughts, when I purchased this player. It still isn't.
I'm more interested in something that's actually useful, like subtitle shifting. If the crap LG player can do it, there's really no excuse. |

Funny how?

Otherwise, this is a VERY naice player. I was a bit perturbed by the blurriness of the chroma in the 4K upscaling but - as with the UB900's upscaling bugs on the factory firmware - a firmware update fixed that. Really good performance and the 12-bit output seems to be better with banding than the UB900, the Spears & Munsil 10-bit quantisation test looks a fair bit smoother. Really good file playback too, the Panny hasn't been bad at all since the recent F/W update but it still choked on a few things e.g. my VC-1 HD DVD rips in .m2ts form which the Sony loves (oh, look at those proper subs on La Momie, I'm gonna miss them on the Euro UHD) and it also plays back files which have lossless DTS-HD MA, unlike the Panny. Still gutted it doesn't auto zoom though. ![]() |

Damn, calling this thing whisper quiet almost does it a disservice. There's nothing to even show it's on apart from that lickle green light, it's kinda weird not having a player that makes a racket - and it's a Sony too! All the Sonys I had before (plenty of 'em) sounded like they were gonna fly apart but this deck is damped superbly.

My UHPH1 and BDP7200 were quiet. Sony has done well the last few years.

Didn't think I'd ever be praising the DNR settings on a player, but I picked up the UK release of Truck Turner on BD today and the compression is awful. The x800 managed to clean it up and make it watchable, without turning it into Predator UHE. Those custom video modes might actually come on handy.

I don't use it, but I've seen many post about loving the IP NR on streaming.
