In all honesty, I'm actually counting on the X800 and Z9D getting that DV firmware update anytime now... Z9D is certain ofcourse but where would the logic be if the X800 didn't get this update???

C'mon, Sony, don't let me down...
Ten days, exactly. That's very soon.

If X800 gets a DV update, I will Day One Resident Evil: Vendetta UHD.

I'd like to compare HDR to DV on my LG C6 and see what's what.

If not, I would probably just get the BD later used.

DV wasn't even in my thoughts, when I purchased this player. It still isn't.

I'm more interested in something that's actually useful, like subtitle shifting. If the crap LG player can do it, there's really no excuse.

I'm more bummed out that it doesn't appear to do the auto-zooming for non-anamorphic DVDs like previous Sony decks can do.

Otherwise, this is a VERY naice player. I was a bit perturbed by the blurriness of the chroma in the 4K upscaling but - as with the UB900's upscaling bugs on the factory firmware - a firmware update fixed that. Really good performance and the 12-bit output seems to be better with banding than the UB900, the Spears & Munsil 10-bit quantisation test looks a fair bit smoother. Really good file playback too, the Panny hasn't been bad at all since the recent F/W update but it still choked on a few things e.g. my VC-1 HD DVD rips in .m2ts form which the Sony loves (oh, look at those proper subs on La Momie, I'm gonna miss them on the Euro UHD) and it also plays back files which have lossless DTS-HD MA, unlike the Panny. Still gutted it doesn't auto zoom though.

Wait you switched players Geoff? We're pretty close to having an identical experience now. TRUE BROS!

The X800 came with the ZD9 so I thought I'd give it a whirl, it's an awesome player. But can you check Abyss or whatever non-anamorphic DVD titles you were using before to see if the auto zoom works? Ta.

Damn, calling this thing whisper quiet almost does it a disservice. There's nothing to even show it's on apart from that lickle green light, it's kinda weird not having a player that makes a racket - and it's a Sony too! All the Sonys I had before (plenty of 'em) sounded like they were gonna fly apart but this deck is damped superbly.

My UHPH1 and BDP7200 were quiet. Sony has done well the last few years.

Still dealing with syncing issues. Really not in the mood to deal with Sony again. Lol

The player is quiet but like any quiet player I can still easily hear it when a disc is in there spinning. At least there is no fan like with the Sammy UHD players. You could hear the fan all the time with those.

At startup it makes a few noises but during spinning I couldn't hear a thing and it was just a few feet from me.

I'll test that later tonight if I remember to.

It is super quiet, yes. So was my last Sony BDP though, the S5100. I'm assuming they made some upgrades since your last Sony.

I'm glad the X800 is quiet, unlike my other two Sony players (S590 and S790) which at times sound like they are about to lift off. And they're ugly as hell too.

Didn't think I'd ever be praising the DNR settings on a player, but I picked up the UK release of Truck Turner on BD today and the compression is awful. The x800 managed to clean it up and make it watchable, without turning it into Predator UHE. Those custom video modes might actually come on handy.

I don't use it, but I've seen many post about loving the IP NR on streaming.
