Judging by the date of the latest firmware update (a late-April date), it's likely I won't need to use it and may already be in my forthcoming model. |

I think I might pick up this 4k player. I just don't get why it's so bulky. Best Buy had a sign up that said you got 2 4k movies when you purchase and register the 4k player. Not sure if I should go this direction of buy the Samsung 4k for $100 less.

It's not bulky at all, just solidly built. Much better than other flimsy built machines like so many previous Sony models. I have no idea what you're talking about with the flap though. Anyway, trust me, it's so much better than the Samsung!

At my BB, Samsung was only $50 less and I believe the LG was on sale for $250 as well.
No regrets getting the Sony here, and you do get those two free 4K physical movies too. I think the reason Sony did the faceplate design was to avoid a boring disk tray cutout slot. To me, Sony's faceplate design preserves a clean visual look and is very upscale (no pun intended). Last edited by Frank@Chicago; 06-09-2017 at 10:44 AM. |

Had the first lockup last night. Watching Dr Who on Amazon (HD 1080p) and it came to a screeching halt, frozen screen. Nothing did anything other than pulling the power cord.

Is it true that this player ALWAYS outputs 12 bit no matter how I configure it? Wouldn't it be more logical to output 10 bit video with HDR discs and leave BD's and DVD's the option of using Deep Color (which really serves no purpose) at 10 or 12 bit?
If I have a Samsung T.V. set with HDR and a 10 bit pannel, a 12 bit video signalplayed by the Sony may bring issues like more banding than normal with or without HDR video signals. I'm thinking about getting this player, I have the Samsung UBD K-8500 but being a first gen player is too basic for my taste, and I want a player more solid not a lightweight piece of plastic. |

According to the manual, with the deep color set to auto, the player will output 12/10 bit depending on the display's capabilities. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Okay so Sony told me my skipping issue was from having Deep Color set to "auto." I said "doesn't it need to be on auto to send 10+bit color? That is what I have read online." They said "it depends on the display." I did some tests though and UHDs look pretty much the same on the KS8000 with Deep Color off, so whatevs. No skipping since I turned it off.
