Just for the record ...

I received my Panasonic 704 today and the awful banding I had with the Sony during SDR conversion with 'Batman v Superman' is completely gone! Right now, Panasonic really seems to be the only option, if you need SDR conversion. Or in other words: Stay away from the Sony if you need SDR conversion.

Just fyi, the correct English is would 'have' waited and would 'have' loved, not 'of'. Sorry to be so picky but that just drives me crazy!

I still can't pause a film without losing audio output when I resume playback. I have to switch through my HDMI options on my receiver to reset the audio. I have an HDMI cable running through the receiver for sound and another to my tv for video. Is this an issue with the player itself or due to the unorthodox way I am using 2 HDMI cables for audio/video output?

Default Sony x800.

How does 4k hdr to sdr work for non hdr 4k tvs. I know this player does it. What will it look like compared to the 4k player I have now. I am using the Samsung from last year k8500. Can anyone that has used this feature know image quality wise how it differs

Wasn't aware that this played SACDs and DVD-As. If it had DV I would probably buy it, but for now I'll keep an eye out for a good sale. Like... well under $200 with a bunch of 4K movies I don't already have for free type sale.

It mimics the look of HDR relatively well but crushed black pretty heavily on my old TV and maybe boosted color a tad here and there, but not all the time. It's not a mode for someone who cares about calibration or how things should look, but if you're not too picky and don't mind some black crush here and there it looks okay.

Panny's SDR conversion is the best in town. And it's even better if you've got one of the rare TVs than can prize a SDR 2020 signal out of it.

Bumpitbaby!

Try this: Shut down everything, disconnect the HDMI cable from the Sony's end and from the receiver's end (Audio), reconnect it firmly, turn everything back On, select the HDMI audio in your receiver that applies to that input...Dolby Atmos/DTS:X (Dolby TrueHD/DTS-HD MA), select Bitstream for the HDMI Audio Out from the Sony.

You Know Guys. Come near This Christmas Time if Sony don't put DV in their Blu Player... Most Everyone going to think their Players are Obsolete. Old Stuff.

Whose Going to Pay for a Player $150 or $200+ for Old
Technology. Thats on its way Out.

Every NON-Doofus person considering ONE of Many Sony DV TV's for Xmas will come to a Screatching Halt when they ask their Sales Agent which Sony DV Player do you Buy for the Family to go with the new DV TV. When the Salesmen says LG UP970 if you don't Wanna spend $600... Hell Sony Customer then going to say show me those LG DV TV's again.

Of cource if you Doofus who knows what will happen.
But for Black Friday or Xmas... Peoples wanna Buy Nice Stuff.

Then again
The Horror for Sony. Sales Agent tells Sony TV Customer WELL FELLA... IF YOU DON'T WANT DV____ let me show Ya those Million Colors QLED panels. With matching Blu Players not needing DV

Is this worth getting if I already have the Samsung from last year. About 8 months old. Will there be picture quality difference from blu rays and 4k disks? Has anyone done side by side differences in the 2 players and how movies look at both if they are comparable or totally different

Blu225.
Samsung 8500 no wheres as picture quality fantastic as the Sony x800 or even the new Samsung m9500. Bare in Mind LG UP970 1080p, 3D, 4K, HDR10 Picture Quality is Magnificient.

Understand Dolby Vision Picture Quality is the highest. Well least until HDR10 Plus comes out. HDR10+ is a Samsung Thing.

So you need to consider if your Dream TV is or will be DV or HDR10+ based. And match Blu Disc Player accordingly.
I don't think Sony Players will be HDR10+ Capable. For Sony chose LG OLED Panels which is DV. Samsung won't play the DV Card and go the new HDR10+. Research if Samsung m9500 Player can be firmware upgradable to HDR10 Plus.

One last note- 2017 Samsung do not support 3D.

Of cource Everyone can have different Players views.

By your own eyes... just hook to your TV and choose what you like. Return what you don't like.

Cool Costco includes the HDMI Cable. Confirm its HDR10 Compliant. That means it better be HDMI 2.0a type cable to watch 4K UHD HDR blu disc movies.

"The main thing to know is that HDMI 2.0a is only relevant to new, high-end 2015 TVs that can accept and display HDR content. Most of the 4K TVs and non-4K announced in 2015, including numerous high-end models such as LG's 2015*OLED*TVs*, don't support HDR. They don't need HDMI 2.0a and have no use for HDR signals, via HDMI or otherwise."

Damn.

Even Sony's high end BDPS7200 Dual Core 3D 4K Upscaling Blu-ray Player with Wi-Fi Equavalence never never hit Costco Shelves.

So there is a Lot to Think About with the Sony x800 Costco model being sold there. When the Samsung 8500 hit Costco... it was'nt that long that Samsung announced their m9500 Blu Player
