Obviously you have a lot to think about when it comes to the x800, since you keep kicking around to find any evidence that you can twist into a win for your Beloved LG.

Its quite obvious now that by CES 2018(January 9th) or even much before We will hear of a new Sony Player. One that will be appropriate for my Dream Sony 75 inch 940e which is DV capable(260 Local Dimming Zones).

Just a quick one guys. When I play bluerays on my x800 they are grainy picture is nice just grainy tv is set at bt2020 picture is standard on the player it's set at 4.4.4 and deep colour on also everything else is on auto. I've played Robin Hood, planet of the apes, troy, Kingdom of heaven and they are all grainy but the picture is nice to watch. If that makes sense.

Oh no! A company is going to release a new product a year later. It's like they think people will buy new yearly models or something. I wonder where they got that idea?!

Not sure what you're asking but if it looks too grainy you either A) dislike grain, sadly, or B) have sharpening too high. It probably should be on zero, unless you have a Sony TV.

If they were to also offer the 2 free movies that are valued at around $50, then that would be like getting the player for around $189.99. However maybe Costco does not offer the two free movies.

So new players are now $239.99 and refurbished players are $164.99. Maybe we will see $199.99 before the fourth quarter of 2017. Those that do not want to spend $549 for the price locked OPPO UDP-203, will be getting the Sony UBP-X800. The only real advantage of the Sony over the OPPO is the price and the ability to do streaming.

If I did not own an OPPO UDP-203 already, I would have purchased this Sony for a family member to use. When I see the Sony for $199.99 new it might be time to buy. Would like to see Dolby Vision added in a firmware update, but might never happen. One day refurbused players might go for $99.99 (If that becomes a reality some people will pick up 2 players since it’s the only Sony Blu-ray player on the market that handles DVD-Audio). DVD-Audio and SACD playback use to be an exclusive feature found on OPPO players. A+ for Sony offering that feature also.

Technology. Thats on its way Out.

Every NON-Doofus person considering ONE of Many Sony DV TV's for Xmas will come to a Screatching Halt when they ask their Sales Agent which Sony DV Player do you Buy for the Family to go with the new DV TV. When the Salesmen says LG UP970 if you don't Wanna spend $600... Hell Sony Customer then going to say show me those LG DV TV's again.

Of cource if you Doofus who knows what will happen.
But for Black Friday or Xmas... Peoples wanna Buy Nice Stuff.

Then again
The Horror for Sony. Sales Agent tells Sony TV Customer WELL FELLA... IF YOU DON'T WANT DV____ let me show Ya those Million Colors QLED panels. With matching Blu Players not needing DV
How is HDR10 old? Every UHD BD that has any form of HDR is required to have HDR10. And also you do realize that the vast majority of people have no clue whatsoever what HDR is. Let alone the difference between DV and HDR10.

When did Sony release a DV update for their TVs? Last I heard the update was hopefully coming in the fall.

Come near Christmas time!!! is whats stated. Which is also really near CES 2018 January 6th. By then DV blu ray disc, DV TVs, DV in general peoples Mind Sets are in nicely in place. Least for peoples walking in Best Buy actually looking to buy a nice TV or nice Blu Ray Player. Sure there will still be tons of peoples buying $50-$100 DVD Players and 1080p Blu Ray Players for Black Friday or Christmas. But really really really these are Old Stuff. But for mass of peoples thinking DVD, 1080p or non HDR-DV items are New Stuff when buying them thats Fine. Peoples knows What makes them Happy.

But if you are marketing for New Stuff like AVR, 55 inch plus TVs, Disc Players, Streaming Boxes, or even projectors, cameras, smartphones you better know what 4K, HDR, DV, HDR10+ is. Or you going to get BURNED.

Arronwt2065. Just last week I brought a Roku streaming box to watch Netflix HDR thru my Onkyo AVR connected to 5.1.2 speakers. Then I found out it won't work for my AVR don't pass thru HDR from the Roku and that my Onkyo is not HDMI 2.0a compatable. Not-Working Thats because I still have some Old Stuff. My Onkyo is Old Stuff even tho 90% plus of AVR owners have the same level receiver. Truely in the Home High Tech AV World of Today one must Learn whats New Stuff and whats really, really Old Stuff.

4K, HDR, DV, HDR10+, HLG are Truely New Stuff.
So is HDM1 2.0a needed for HDR. And soon HDMI 2.1 needed for extended ARC communication between TV, AVR or even future soundbars.

Its IMPERATIVE to Learn Whats New. So that Shoppers can Kinda "Future Proof" their TV viewing room for a few years. For me... HDR, DV, 3D, Atmos will keep me Happy for Hopefully appx 5 years.

Not sure about that specific model but I believe all Sony's use 50 as the zero sharpness setting? So you might be softening the image. You should google around, maybe yours is a unique one where 0 actually is zero.

Other settings can make grain more apparent. Anything that brightens the screen really, can call more attention to it. Hard to say without sitting on your couch though.

And you even know about many of these things yet you didn't do any research. For me, back in 2015 I researched everything so I knew about HDMI 2.0a, HDCP 2.2, and HDR. So I knew about the limitations of my equipment. Your average buyer will not be doing any research. And will probably just listen to the salesperson. So like what happens every year, of course they will get burned one way or another.

Either they will be convinced to buy all the most expensive gear, and proceed to just watch DVDs and HD content on their UHD equipment. Or they will get equipment and find out they can't use it with newer stuff. This has always happened and this year will be no different. Because your average person doesn't research properly when buying electronics. This has always been the case and will never change.

You can still get the Best buy four year extended warranty. For less than it cost me when I got one at launch from Best buy. Since the price is much lower for the so called refurb. And if there is an issue Best buy will give you a gift card with the value of what you paid for it. I've used their extended warranties many times during the 21st century.

Plus I have a 45 day return period at Best Buy. Which also helps with purchases there when I need to get a price match or return an item.
