Lets Clear this Up.
Was it the Sony Vice President of Engineering that stated No DV Chip in the x800? Was it Sony's x800 Project Manager that said No DV Chip in the x800? Was it a Sony x800 Beta Tester that said No DV Chip in the x800? And was he drunk and maybe in a Dive Bar? Just EXACTLY who was it that said No DV Chip in the x800. X800 Present Owners or the Mass 10,000,000 potential Sony x800 owners are Entitled to Know! I forementioned Sony Present owners because if x800 don't get DV... is Sony fearful Many of them will jump ship as they Buy their DV TV's this Black Friday, Xmas season. So my Gosh. Who Officialy said there is No DV Chip in the x800 representing Sony Corp??? |

It is unlikely that the X800 has the power to process & combine the HDR10 base layer and the Dolby Vision metadata for output. There continues to be the misperception that there is just a simple software solution. Just look at the Sony TV situation, where DV is actually promised, they have had months to implement DV on the X1-Extreme sets, yet we are still waiting for firmware that might come in late summer (rumored). Just because a lot of people hope for the X800 and X1000 to get DV, it will NOT make it so. Last edited by gkolb; 07-06-2017 at 03:51 AM. Reason: Wording correction |

It is my assumption that implementing a software change such as adding DV requires a lot of testing to make sure it is correctly implemented and does not "break" other portions of the software. If I worked for Sony and the software engineers were tasked with implementation I would not make any announcement until I was sure it was successfully implemented.

I had to take the LG 970 back too, that player isn't worth $300. Maybe it's less now? I hated the remote, the Windows 3.1 menus, the flimsy build quality, basically everything. It'll be sad day when the 970 gets DV support over the x800. Sony better get busy. |

Lot of us in the same boat. I'm preparing to be disappointed by Sony, but to be fair I bought this knowing DV support was not confirmed. That being said, I probably would not buy another Sony blu-ray player in the future if that happens. No excuse for releasing this thing without DV support when Sony is releasing 4k DV discs. Its a really nice player besides that glaring omission though.

I have no Doubt at CES 2018(January 6th) Sony will have a Sony Blu Disc Player playing a DV Movie on their Sony DV TV's.
I have no Doubt at CES 2018(January 6th) LG will have a LG Blu Disc Player playing a DV Movie on their LG DV TV's. And with a million peoples, Press, Electronic Store Owners at CES... Both Sony and LG will present Magnificient, Stunning, Jaw Dropping PQ. So there is Lot at Stake for Both Companies. Neither company would want to show SubPar DV in their Display rooms. I Think its Going to be a Huge Battle. And both companies will have AWESOME PQ Electronic Things. Even now LG is displaying over 110 DV Stunning Movies on their OLEDs(VUDU Atmos, DV). The LG Chip and software doe incredible DV PQ. LG will as well have their LG DV Smartphones at CES. Sony is more Quiet Now. But Surprise Comes from Sony Often Last edited by E6AtmosVuduDV; 07-06-2017 at 06:21 PM. Reason: Completing post |

Did Sony not wait an entire year to put out a stand-alone 4K player (the x800). I remember endless speculation about stealth PS4 updates and custom HDMI sets. Sony was able to add HDR to the PS4 by some unknown means, which surprised some. Then there was the whole PS4 Pro (4K, just not 4K BD) thing, this has been a long road... If the x800 is obsolete mere months after launch after all this waiting...wow. Last edited by Frank@Chicago; 07-07-2017 at 08:22 AM. |

Do you guys realize only a fraction of the displays sold right now actually do DV? Samsung doesnt, Panny doesnt, LG does, Vizio does, and Sony does not.
Obsolete is a bit drama queen. Lets not forget the 2014-2016 displays out there that dont either. It is a great streamer for Netflix and Amazon, and offers exceptional blu-ray and UHD HDR10 playback. If you bought it with the gut feeling Sony would add DV, it's kinda shame on you. |

I agree. Getting all het up over something that was never, ever promised or even implied in any official way by Sony is a bit silly. Equally silly is Sony's own handling of the situation, with (potential) DV TVs and (definite) DV UHD content with no DV spinner to ferry the signal from disc to display, but that's Sony all over: the right hand never knows what the left is doing.

Yeah, I mean I do agree Sony is being a dumbass for having such a great player at a great place with no DV, and adding DV to their displays in a couple of months. Thats just Sony really IMO... BUT, Sony never promised DV on this years players and I bought it knowing exactly that. The forum snowball of hope got this one.

It did indeed. Sony are BEYOND stupid for potentially having the displays and the content but not the one thing which connects the two, no argument there, but I never expected anything and it's still a fabulous player regardless. I'll get an OPPO sooner rather than later to see what the fuss is about (second time lucky, as the 95 did not impress me at all) and for the DV, natch, but other than that the Sony is staying. As much as I love certain features on my Panny UB900 the Sony is quite simply the better player.

Yeah, the Sony will be my main player until I decide to mess with DV.
We should know soon how accurate the 2017 and 2016 LG's are in DV mode, and the 2017's should be able to be calibrated as well. |
