Nobody knows. However...

"Sony UBP-X800 4K UHD Blu-rayplayer :: Dolby Vision (confirmed - today)

(this information may not widely be known)

today (yesterday it was not so) ::Sony rep confirmed forthcoming support for Dolby vision

he confirmed the following:
- 1 - this player has the required hardware chip to support Dolby Vision
- 2 - it does not support DolbyVision (out of the box)
- 3 - it will (as LG - Philips - Oppo)support Dolby Vision via a later (eventual)
firmware update (when exactly is unknown)
- 4 - licensing agreements are now worked out
- 5 - Dolby Vision supported televisions are as already known (X930E - X940E - Z9D)
- 6 - the remarkable X900E does not have neither the required hardware chip or processor power to support Dolby Vision, seemingly impossible, so it will not
'Nobody knows' is where you should have left it. Everything we've heard thus far that indicates DV is or could be coming to the X800 is just 'he said' and 'she said' nonsense. "I was at a store and a Sony rep was there, and guess what!!!!..." That's not reliable information, nor has it been confirmed by Sony in any capacity, 'on the sly' OR officially.

Here's the bottom line:

Anyone who bought this play bought one of the best on the market considering its price. It seems to have the least amount of playback problems when compared to anything else. It was well known it didn't come with DV and nobody knew if it ever would.

If DV doesn't come, I'm fine. I'd much rather invest in a TV that can handle HDR10 better by having the proper nits eventually anyway, as opposed to having DV. But if DV does come, cool. Anyone that complains about this player not have DV (if they bought it) have no room to complain.

We'll have to see what the future holds.

It's not even worth looking up. I myself may have even shared something like this a while back... but this is an older report, and even then it was to be taken with a grain of salt.

I wish there was a link as well. Just so I can read the article/post in order to see how ridiculous his interpretation has been...like usual.

needless to say, i immediately purchased and will have it in a few days (nice day today - indeed)

i was both expecting & hoping this would eventually be announced, as i would not purchase without Dolby Vision

my purchase was immediate (literally seconds) once that i was informed and subsequently (real time) confirmed via the Sony rep (seemingly, there is no possibility of error in this regard, as he was contacted several times as i waited for further confirmation that there was no misunderstanding)

Is that what Sony Corp said. That it should be taken with a grain of salt.

Or
Who was it Exactly that said it was Salt??? Or Salt Stuff.

I think we're way beyond language barrier, here. You don't even seem to comprehend what you're reading.

Sony, as a company, have said NOTHING about DV in regards to this player. Some loose lipped sales representative who would have said anything to sell a player doesn't count.

Again, NOTHING has been said. Absolutely zip, zero, zilch, nada. The exact opposite of something/anything.

Is this sinking in?

Has anyone had any issue with their player randomly restarting?

Mine has manually restarted a few times while watching it lately. I looked and am on the current software version (0173). It's annoying but not really the main issue. I keep having to reload all of my Netflix and Prime user info when it reboots.

It freaked out on me once after stopping a movie, I had to unplug it. Besides that one time though it's been fine.

Thanks for the info. I might give Sony customer service a call tomorrow and see if they have any advice.

HDR developed by the BBC. And is also in the ATSC 3.0 spec. I have played back an HLG HDR YouTube video from my X800 and my Sony UHD TV played it back in HDR. But only after the June update for my TV was installed.

I think I got one hell of a deal here, the UBP-X800 for $175.00, and still, was able to get the two 4k movies for free. I just received those today, Life and Underworld: Blood Wars. But, I'm hoping that I can find someone to do a trade with me for the Underworld. They actually did not have two movies that I wanted, Life was the only one that got my attention. So, Underworld will remain unopened for now.

That is really like getting the player for $125, since the two free movies have a value of around $50. At that price some people will buy two or more Sony players. However I wonder if the 2 free movie deal is limited to one per address or family?

My refurb's serial was already used when I tried to get the free discs. I assume the original buyer bought it, redeemed the free disc offer, then returned it for a refund. It came in original packaging, but the remote was thrown in loose so it got scratched up.

The serial number on mine went through with no problems, thankfully. Which I guess may also give me the full warranty, since Sony had no record of it as being sold previously. But, then again, perhaps it was never sold to begin with, a display maybe.

The Sony UBP-X800 refurbished is now only $154.99 with free shipping at Best Buy. http://www.bestbuy.com/site/sony-ref...?skuId=5848830

My educated guess is during the 4th quarter this year new Sony UBP-X800's will be around $199.99 and possible refurbished units around $99.99.

Hi all,

So I'm finally gonna buy a 4K blu-ray player and this is the one that I've set my eyes on.

Does anyone know if SONY will be releasing a new 4K player anytime soon?
Also, almost every review I've read of this player listed "No Dobly Vision support" as the only Con, and I read in a post here that it will be coming via firmware update. So it's basically gonna be a normal update right? I wouldn't have to take it in to a shop to get updated right? Cause I'm buying a region free version of this player.

Any information would help.
Please and thank you.

Most companies introduce new Blu-ray players at CES in January each year and then launch them around April or May. So you're looking at another 9 months or so until a new Sony 4K player is released.
