Hopefully, the new one works better than this one.

Previous issues were: Player was losing usernames and passwords for apps. It was also freezing up.
Current issue: Player would only load the Sony screen and turn off.
Damn Rat, sorry to hear aboot your player. I haven't had any issues with mine..hopefully I won't either.

P.S. You might remember I had a frame skipping issue months ago but that ended up being a TV firmware update thing and isn't related.
Velvet, did you get your replacement player from Sony yet? I'm starting to miss your reviews of all the new releases coming out. Hurry up and get back to posting some reviews.

Oh yeah, sorry to hear about the other player giving you problems. I've had my share of Blu-ray players dying on me.

I hope the new one plays without any issues as well. When it did play the quality and sound is amazing. I just had all kinds of issues with it.

Yes, that is very well your issue. If your cable is that old it likely can't handle the data stream.

Yeah there's quite a few commiserating with us on AVS. Makes sense a new tech would have a relatively high failure rate I suppose.

I haven't even gotten the shipping label yet. The customer service reps are hard to understand due to their accents, so I'm not sure if it's being emailed or regular mailed. Either way I confirmed like three times they have the proper addresses, so now I just wait.

It's funny but I had a very similar thing happen on the last Sony player I bought, the BDP-S790 (three or four years ago). Started off fine but after a few weeks it decided to stop playing Blu-rays while DVD was fine. Huh.

She told me the shipping label would be sent by mail and should arrive in a few days.

EDIT: If you haven't gotten that label you should call them. I got mine in email this morning. She did tell me yesterday that it would be mailed to me though.

I don't understand why Amazon Video is not available on the European versión of this player even 'though Amazon Video is available on some European countries.
I live in Spain, bought my UBP X-800 player here, I have an Amazon Prime account but I cannot get Amazon Video app for it, it's silly. I contacted Sony Spain regarding Amazon Video and they didn't know what I was talking about. Crazy.

Why do they have to mail you the label? Usually they email the label, then you can print it out, stick it on the box and send the player on it's way.

I had my Sony Blu-ray player fail on me a little over a year ago, but I had the extended warranty from Walmart. Walmart emailed me the label, I sent the player off to be fixed and I got it back in about two weeks. I know you're dealing with Sony directly, but I don't think it should take this long.

I've dealt with Sony RMAs before and the labels were always emailed. However, it wasn't instant. 24-48 hours later before I got the labels.

Yeah it's weird that it played BDs and DVDs fine. When I took it off the shelf this morning though I heard loose parts flying around inside, so that can't be good. Never took it off the shelf before so god knows how that happened.

I got it today, mailed the player this afternoon. It's just confusing because they also told me it was coming in the mail, or something was. Maybe they mailed the player already, I dunno. In any event, it's on its way.

Heh. When I first got my X800 out of the box I accidentally dropped it onto the floor, it's a heavy thing so it made a very loud 'clonk' and I thought for sure I'd broken it....but it's not got a mark on it and thus far it's been a very reliable player.

I was on the Costco web site and according to the reviews posted purchasers of the Costco version were able to get the two free 4K discs.

That's not just for Costco customers. It is a special that Sony itself is running until September. Buy the X800 & get two UHDs free of charge when redeemed through Sony's website.

Sony has not announced if this player will be updated to DV. It may be or it may never be.

They got it today. One assumes they can figure out it's from me via the return address or serial number on the unit, but god knows.
