Does the UBP-X800 have the option to properly downmix audio (including the LFE) to stereo over HDMI or coax out? Do players usually have this kind of functionality?
I've always been a HTPC user so I'm not well-versed in standalone players, but looking to buy one since UHD isn't very accessible on PC right now. I'm just struggling with the audio side of things since it seems incredibly complicated and expensive to get a good amplified headphone output on the level with what you'd get for free on a decent motherboard or a $100 USB dac/amp. |

Not just ZD9, all their tvs. Maybe problems getting perfect settings and since many LG owners says they have DV problems like grey bars and stuff sony want to fix before releasing.

I might wait on purchasing this Sony since I can always use the OPPO UDP-203 if I need Dolby Vision. I hope the second generation Sony 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray players coming out in 2018 support both Dolby Vision HDR and SACD/DVD-Audio playback. The first generation hardware chipset in the Sony must not be able to handle the processing power for Dolby Vision HDR. Dolby Vision HDR offers 12 bit with 68.7 billion colors, where as HDR10 is only 10 bit with 1.07 billion colors.

And yet it's got no problem upscaling a 10-bit input to a 12-bit signal for output.
12-bit itself isn't the issue, it's being able to recombine the 3840x2160 HDR10 base layer and the 1920x1080 DV enhancement layer on the fly which is where the magic happens. The processing is having to retrieve and rebuild all that information contained in the DV's fairly minuscule extension layer, there's some serious voodoo going on there. |

Now that it's confirmed were not getting DV I'll probably do the same thing over here when it gets cheap enough. A lot easier and probably cheaper then having to buy the x2000 or whatever and having to sell the old one. Assuming of course I get enough DV titles to make it worthwhile, right now I have 4 of them.

On the Screen set up of the X-800 there's an option to change from T.V. to Projector. What's the difference between T.V. and projector setting? I've tried both and watched the picture through my Samsung 50'' HDR 4K T.V. set and I've seen no differences.

I assumed it might boost brightness since projectors are nowhere near as bright as HDR televisions, but yeah I didn't notice a difference either.

Hi, does anyone know if this switch will work with the Sony player to ensure HDR will pass through? Need to use the switch with the player and cable box. Everything I am reading I assume so.
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...DCMUXLAY&psc=1 Thanks in advance. Last edited by jgiovanni; 09-15-2017 at 04:17 PM. |

I have a Sony UBP-X800 with a Samsung UN49KS8000.
I have a couple of complete series TV shows on DVD -- Star Trek: Deep Space Nine (yes, the official version from an FYE) and Friday the 13th: The Series (both being from CBS DVD). Both shows, of course, were originally shot in the 4:3/1:33:1 aspect ratios. Of all the complete TV shows (live-action and animated) on DVD I have, ST ![]() The Sammy is set to: Picture - Picture Size - 16:9 Standard. The Sony settings are: TV Type - 16:9 Screen Format - Normal DVD Aspect Ration - Letter Box Cinema Conversion Mode - Auto What should I adjust for the two above-mentioned shows, as well as any future TV shows on DVD, that won't automatically format to their proper 4:3? |

In another it says HDMI 2.0 and 60khz. I don't know. Price seems too low to have all the chip technology to process: HDMI 2.0a or b HDCP 2.2 (copyright protection hardcoded) 18 gb/s transfer rate all in 3 HDMI ports. You will need all of the above for high quality HDR10 data transfer (the HDMI 2.0b would get you DV pass thru as well) So it might be a crap shoot, can't say for sure, but seems not likely...
