Until this evening, I hadn't realized this thread existed and that y’all were fans . I posted this in the HDR Discussion Thread awhile back but it got *lost* in the shuffle of things with a *controvery*. For those who may have interest -

P.S. In the YouTube clip, the quickie showing the ‘To Set’ sign is on the bayside of Peohe’s Coronado.

For more emerging principal photography Insider insights, since this motion picture will eventually receive an HDR grade, view about that last 10 pages of the HDR Discussion Thread for interspersed tidbits in the Ultra HD Blu-ray and 4K subforum. Should be easy as comments made have usually been supplemented by pictures.

Good to see you here Penton. I've not been around those technical threads now, more interested about the films itself these days.

Having seen the first film once (and then sampling it again 10 years later) is reason enough to not go to this one, IMO.

Shoot, and I actually OWN the first IRON EAGLE on dvd, so you can't say I don't like hokey jet movies. At least that one has got cockpit stuff that with the actors that looks like it was shot in daylight, instead of through a pair of sunglasses. TG Score is kind of catchy in places, but prefer Basil's IE stuff there as well. Man, the 2nd half of TG's act 2, post Anthony Edwards, played like a solid 1/2 hr of Cruise feeling sorry for himself. That's not deepening the drama or making things more complex, that's hand-wringing over it.

Think there was a better movie in the earlier draft where the Skerritt and Ironside characters were the same guy.

Also the movie’s apparently filming in Norfolk this week, I think it’s just second unit though.

Glad to offer some insights here when I can. My past posts in the HDR Discussion Thread contain a mixture of more technically oriented material like camera placement in the cockpit - https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread...t#post15559027 to general comments about the movie itself, weeks before the local news stations and internet picks up on such things, e.g. (about NAS Lemoore) - https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread...t#post15543102

To sum it up, for those wondering about how much effort is being placed in this movie production, especially read the last sentence of this post - https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread...g#post15620014

P.S.
Also included are scattered tidbits about becoming an extra - https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread...0#post15626221 -reference Oct.3 and 5th postings by Vivienne.
I think all of the above should pretty much catch folks up to speed.

^ In order to capture the scene best as possible, Tom now pictured turned around along with the camera chase car and headed on back to the start of the air strip for another take after this - https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread...r#post15641090 (bottom 2 pics) as sun was going down.

Posted a couple more time lapse photos of one of the planned movie sets and a question on this page – https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread...s#post15650436

If anyone can guess the patch, as a prize, I’ll see if I can get you a unique challenge coin as a memento from the filming for the movie given out to some of the crew. Seems the geeks are all stumped with the patch thing.

I don't wanna go through tons of text to find a close-up pic of the patch. Any chance you can just post the pic of the patch you need identifying?

kylor, I think probably the most revealing pic (accessible by the public) has been from the ABC National News broadcast of last week….
https://abcnews.go.com/WNT/video/top...ealed-58394165

You’ll have to freeze the respective image at the right time to get the best look. I can't just post a pic of the patch outright because that would ruin the contest altogether , but I will do so soon if nobody can correctly guess it. It's already been over a week since I first presented the challenge.

To be clear, I already know (and have known long before Coronado) the squadron patch and its origination. The contest is aimed more toward the fans.

Okay, so.. I'm assuming it's the frontal pic of Tom of one of the set pics for Top Gun 2.

Going through the patches on his jacket, One sticks out that isn't found on Google images, a red/black one with a bit of white on it.

I'm assuming that patch has something to do with Ridgecrest, but I can't make the connection because I am British, not American. Most of this sort of trivia goes right over my head.

I'm afraid to end up watching it someday only to hear songs from like Beyoncé & Drake playing because that would instantly kill the movie for me. Top Gun is simply not Top Gun without 80s music, no matter how cheesy or dated it is; It just adds to the charm to this day.

God, why. The worst part is that I can totally see that in it and people would go crazy for that cover instead of the old one for some inane reason.
